4052R - Operate PTO Off Tractor Seat??

My JD4105 PTO will not operate without someone in the tractor seat. The 4105 is an economy model without a feature that enables the PTO to run without a seated operator. I tighten a ratchet strap on the seat when I run my Wood Chipper - big P.I.T.A. Higher-end tractors have this feature -- as I understand it, the seat is tilted forward which allows PTO to run.

Can 4R models operate PTO without a seated operator? If so, please confirm for me and describe what the steps are. I am not trying to defeat a safety feature.

Yes.

I have a 4052R that I use for chipping. I turn the PTO on from the ground and go to work. It’s an ultra handy feature for sure.

Thanks for confirming -- I am contemplating an upgrade. Not just for this feature but added HP and lifting capacity too.

Yes, they can. Here is the procedure from the operator's manual:

Using Rear PTO Switch (Operator off Seat)
Sit on operator’s seat.

Move transmission to neutral position:

PowrReverser Transmission—Depress clutch pedal completely and move the transmission gear and range shift levers to the N (neutral) position. Move the reverser lever to the N (neutral) position.
Hydrostatic Transmission—Move the transmission range shift lever to the N (neutral) position.

Lock the park brake.

Push the PTO switch down to the off position.

NOTE: The tractor will not start if the rear PTO knob is pulled to the on position.

Start the engine and adjust speed to 1500 rpm.

Get off the operator seat.

Pull the PTO switch to the on position.

NOTE: The instrument panel PTO engaged light illuminates when the rear PTO is engaged.

Adjust the hand throttle forward to the desired speed for the implement used.

NOTE: The PTO marker on the tachometer indicates engine speed for a standard 540 PTO.

Louie, we just joined here so we are a little late to the party, so it looks like you ended up getting the 4052R. How do you like it? I was going to reply because we actually have both a 4052R and a 4105 on the farm. I'm curious to hear your thoughts on the differences. We plan to put together such a video at some point.

I really liked my 4105 -- was a workhorse for over 8 years and took a lot of abuse. It got the jobs done! The time came, however, to upgrade. The new 4052R has about 25% more HP, greater lift capacity and features such as...
1 - Operate PTO without being on tractor seat (Wood Chipper)
2 - Hitch Assist - I love this
3 - 3rd, 4th and 5th Selective Control Valves (4105 only had 3rd SCV)
4 - Storage Compartments
5 - Can operate Stump Grinder without disconnecting Loader and Grapple. Grinder also benefits from additional HP.
6 - Cruise Control and Motion Match

LouieJunior - Does the new tractor allow you to pull bigger stuff with your tree puller?

I haven't uprooted any trees with the new tractor yet. The bigger loader will lift an additional 1,000 pounds so I'm hopeful it will be the case.
