Folks, below is the criteria and considerations for a tractor and implements that I sent to our club for there thoughts. Your comments?
thanks!
-----------------------------------------------------------------
An overview:
The people who are receiving this note are interested in helping KNSC move into the modern world with a tractor and associated implements for it. These will assist us with adding sign posts, bridge support posts and trail blocking posts (via hole auger), pull rocks and stumps out (via ripper tooth) which impedes our early season grooming and get them off the trail, buck logs and brush off (via bucket), plus level and grade the many locations in need of that (via back blade). Clear the trails with a mower that can knock down the black berries, trees and brush that impedes us each fall (HD three point, rotary mower). Plus dig out and/or clean the many ditches and culverts we have and need to maintain (backhoe). Last but not least, a backhoe is needed to add culverts with.
My recommended tractor criteria:
Compact in size or near to that and in the area of 45+ gross HP (40-+ PTO hp), diesel powered and 4-wheel drive.
Enough PTO power to utilize a medium duty, rotary mower, that is as wide as the tractors width. A 6ft mower would be my preference with at least 40hp at the pto.
The 3-point hitch and tractor must be able to handle the heavier weight of a medium duty mower*.
Compact in size or slightly larger to fit on our narrow trails and bridges.
HST transmission for bucking and mowing
Accessories and its setup:
No cab, this would hinder operators who need to get off and on frequently.
The loader needs to strong enough for dirt and rock work plus the bucking of trees.
The loader should also have a 4-in-1 Multi-Purpose Bucket for moving trees, slash and brush. The tractor/loader will need the hydraulics for this, from the start. My preference is to get it, not a normal bucket in the first place. In case you are not familiar with these, below are photos of a Multi-Purpose buckets in use.
Backhoe attachment capable. My preference is to get this at the start, with the tractor.
Other accessories include a post hole auger that's rock capable*, rear blade, ripper tooth for rock and stump extraction and of course, a medium duty mower**.
Setup recommendations for casual/inexperienced users:
Again a HST transmission.
Controls for easy 3 point accessories attachment. That is with controls on its back, to allow operators to make fine adjusts to the three point from there, for attaching to accessories. Or as an alternative, telescopic three point arms. All controls on this machine need to be easy and understandable, for our casual users so anyone who wants to, can readily use use it.
A JD 4052R tractor is what I'd suggest at this point. The earlier version of this machine which has less features is the JOHN DEERE 4520
Do note, JD will do a 20% discount for us when we purchase these items through the city of Hancock. This might render the price of lets say, a 5-8yo used tractor to be the same or close to, a new machine for us. This and its warranty, is why I'll advise a new tractor.

This video I think is the best at showing its features.

In about two weeks, we'll get together and discuss these options.
* Modify the agar by adding a digger tooth to it enabling it to pull some rocks out.
** A buddy of ours has this Woods BB720X Brushbull, medium duty mower, which I hope we can run over or back it into the black berries or the bush located along our trails. Woods corporation claims it to have a 3" tree cutting capability. Nonetheless it needs to be strong enough to strike unseen stumps, rocks and the ground. 40hp might be a minimal amount of power to operate this 1200lb beast of a mower. Here is the woods I like Product Details
