I have a 4020 diesel that has been sitting for a couple of years outside here in NW MN, I have been told it was running when it was parked. Even using a little ether I am unable to get the tractor to fire. It is old enough it has the oil bath air cleaner.

I ran across this forum and thought it might save me some time to ask some folks who are probably familiar with problems like this.

Any ideas where to start.

Thanks

Hi. Welcome. Did you drain the old fuel and use fresh fuel?
Injectors could be fouled. Won't hurt to add some Seafoam to the fuel.
The filters may be clogged and preventing fuel getting to the cylinders.

Are you getting any smoke when it turns over?

I have not done anything with the fuel system and I will do that, I assumed it would fire a little on the ether.

Thanks

Diesel, as pointed out in the original post.

Thanks

apparently my reading comprehension took the day off. when you check the fuel system go ahead and break the injectors loose and reprime the system and make sure the pump is pumping good fuel thru the lines

Sorry, missed that yesterday, not getting any smoke. It turns over well and I tried using that port on the dash for injecting the starting fluid then tried spraying some in the air intake but I'm not getting anything. I'm going to head back out there this weekend and try again. Thanksfor your replies folks.

Take the fuel sediment bowl off and clean it out well. After sitting for two years it's probably gotten moisture in the fuel and contaminated it. Clear all the old fuel out of all the lines, drain the fuel tank and put fresh fuel in the tank.

After getting clean fuel in there , try turning it over for at least 10 seconds at a time til it fires. It may take a bit for the fresh fuel to get to the engine.

I hope your injectors aren't clogged with sediment , if that's the case it will take a bit of work to get her running.
