4005 Clutch Broken? Need help

So pop is using his 4005 today, went to backup and heard a pop. Clutch linkage works but the pedal is limp. Broken clutch fork? Anyone seen this before have any ideas? Unit is still under warranty.

What was he doing with the tractor when it "popped"? Is it possible that he was drifting forward while shifter was in reverse before he tried to engage clutch? If so, he probably blew the lining off of the clutch disk and might not get waranty to cover it. Clutches can be iffy under warranty since there are so many ways that operator error can damage them. Let's hope it has an obvious defect that warranty will cover it. Let us know how you make out with the dealer.

Just easing around was all, as he pressed the clutch down it "popped". Sounds to me like the clutch fork broke. All the linkage on the outside is moving properly, there's just little to no resistance on the pedal now. At 29hrs on the clock if we did what you said I think it's time to trade for something else! No way this tractor has been abused.

So is the plan to get it back to the dealer? Or are you interested in tearing into it yourself?
Likely it is a simple fix, but think you are right about thinking the dealer should tear into it. Any reason you think they will not?

Most "dry" clutch machines have an inspection plate/ventilation port. If you've got the technical manual it might illustrate a way you could look at the clutch assembly and flywheel.

That said, with the number of hours on the tractor - you're dealer really should be the first to "turn a wrench" on the machine - and it should be covered under warranty.

Not very likely that your Dad has been power shifting on the go and abusing the tractor!

Will do. Pop said the first time we took it out and used it he could feel something in the clutch when he pressed the pedal - like something was just slightly out of balance - I honestly never felt anything like that in the times I used it. He is an old school mechanic so he's more keen on troubleshooting things like that. It's at the dealer now so we'll know in a couple of days. I'll be sure to post back!

There are no service bulletins for that model/problem. Your dealer should not give you any problems with warranty. Good luck.

Appears that a roll-pin came out of the linkage arm (internally) that works the throwout bearing. Improper installation from the factory - nothing broken. Tractor is fixed up under warranty and back in action! :thumbsup:
