Well, Dave it looks like you hit the front end right on the attachment! JD and Frontier don't make front mounted attachments for the 4000 series per se.
After the better part of 2 hours diggin' around the JD website and a couple of other sites that I've collected from TBN users -- all I could find was skid steer attachments from Worksite Pro dealers that may/may not be adaptable to the 400X and 400CX FEL with the skid steer attachment option.
Of course, for most of those attachments to be used; you'd likely need the SCV electric diverter option for 3rd-4th-5th SCV outlets and the hard piped lines for hydraulic couplers on the FEL.
I'd guess that with a little creative effort between yourself and the dealer you could use a number of those front mounted attachments and there's a bunch of 'em!
