new holland 1620
Hi All,
I have a 1994 ford/new holland 1620, HST w/less than 1400 hours on it. In 2wd all is well however when in 4wd and just starting out, there is a squealing coming from drive train. it is worse during cold weather and stops after a short while. Have had fluids changed to no avail. Anyone have any ideas what is going on. The sound is similar to electric motor w/dry bearing. The noise starts when depressing the pedal to move and increasing in intensity w/more pedal.
Sorry about posting questions in intro, not familiar w/format for questions yet.
Just tell me where to post the question, I really need some help with the problem I stated above.

Not sure about your model, but many guys have quieted these symptoms by lubing the front driveshaft cover.

On 2nd thought, the shaft will be turning in 4wd or not as long as you're moving. Do the fronts have power to them? Have you checked fluids in the front diff and drop boxes (final drive just inside the wheels)?

I have not checked fluids in front end yet, I'm almost scared to because I think some of the fluid is leaking out the front axle, however it hasn't been a problem yet. The last time I had fluids changed, a leak showed up at front left axle. This wasn't too long ago and has since stopped showing up. I have been able to stop the squeal by periodically spraying lithium grease on front axle drive shaft where it comes out of transmission. When warmer weather comes I will be changing that seal. Thanks for ur input, I appreciate it greatly.

Checked fluid level in front diff. it is low. The IH/Case dealer doesn't sell NH134 for front diff. but says they sell Case 135H so now I'm wondering if this will work or if I have drive 50 miles to the nearest dealer. Any thoughts on the fluids? BTW the noise, I found can be silenced by spraying lithium grease around the front output shaft.
