4 wheel dr disengages???

My Kubota L3400, is 4 years old. Works perfectly except the 4 wheel drive disingages as I work-just comes out of gear. Don't know if there's an adjustment I can't see or if the problem is somewhere else.

Has anyone experienced this problem and if so, please tell me how to correct it or what/where to look for the problem. Will appreciate any help. I'm not a machanic, but mechanically inclined.

I dont have much to offer in the way of help, other than mine (2010 model) takes a pretty good amount of force to push the handle down into 2 WD. and has never done it by itself.

I've had everything from empty water bottles to small sticks find their way into some part of the mechanical assembly that prevents levers from moving all the way into position. You might check to make sure it's really engaged all the way and nothing is keeping it from moving all the way into position.

I had the same problem. Sometimes, the lever to select 2wd or 4wd gets a little bent from use and it doesn't permit the full travel to fully engage whatever you select. I actually used a torch to heat the handle and then bent it back to its proper position. It may be only a fraction of an inch, but it worked for me and haven't had any trouble for a few years after doing it. Use a block of wood as a stop, heat, and bend. It worked for me. Good luck.

I have checked underneath the tractor for sticks, etc. but found nothing. I will take another look at the lever again. I did recently adjust my clutch-think that has anything at all to do with it?

Unlikely that they're related. Did you adjust the clutch pedal free play, or the actual clutch adjustment on the flywheel? Either way, it shouldn't make any difference. Like one of the other posters, mine is pretty hard to move to dis-engage 4wd. I think the stiffness is more a leverage issue than actual jamming.

My neighbor's tractor (Kubota L3450) was doing that - just falling out of 4wd. We made a guide plate with a slot and notches to trap the shift lever in one position or the other - it takes a definite push to move the lever out of the notches. It solved the problem. Take care - Dick B
