Mowing 4 ft Howse rotary mower on a Beaver III

I used my Land Pride finish mower last weekend, and it works great. I just got my 4 ft. Howse rotary mower. Is my Beaver III gonna be OK with this? The guy I bought it from says I might need to add some weight to the front. It already had weight for the finish mower when I bought it.

The answer is it depends. Some rotery cutters are heavier than others. The problem will surface when you lift the cutter. If the cutter can be lifted and the tractor does not raise the front wheels when you start off it should be ok. Also when running latterly across a grade the cutter may drag the rear of the tractor down hill. The tractor will have enough power to cut all but very thick and tall grass. It is not a good idea to lift the cutter while going up hill.

I pull a 4ft Howse rotary mower with a Iseki TS1610 2 wheel drive. This Iseki tractor weighs about 1600lbs.

I use four 45lb weights on the font. Before adding the weights my font end would lift and the steering did not have enough bite.

I would probably add some weight up front just for extra safety, it would not hurt. Is your lot hilly or flat? If you have alot of hills, I would fill your rear tires to the 2 o'clock postition and add weight up front. You will notice the tractor would feel more solid on the hills. If your lot is flat, then don't worry about it and add the front weight if the font end feels light. Another little test is letting the clutch out quickly witht he attachment 8-12 inchdes off the ground. If you look like Evil Kenevil you defintely need the weight. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif
