KIOTI CS2520
I inherited a 4.5’ Yanmar Grey Market Tiller when my Dad passed away. I have been going over it to get it operational. Planning to use it with my new KIOTI CS2520.
I read these Grey Market Tillers have a shear pin on the tine roller shaft since the PTO input on the gearbox is splined. However, I am not seeing a single shear pin on the tine roller shaft. I see what should be 3 bolts (I am missing 1) that connect the gear drive flange to the tine roller shaft (see pics). Is this the shear point? If so, surprised there would be 3 shear pins vs. a single shear pin. If this is not the shear point I need to figure out putting a slip clutch in the driveline.
Any help would be appreciated.

What model Yanmar Rotary Tiller, chances are I have the parts manual for it. This would answer many of your questions.

I can’t find the data plate. But I think it’s a YTH D50 or an RS1200. It looks similar to both of these models I have seen on the internet.

From something I posted long ago (2007) when I bought mine:

The model #, RS1400, indicates 55.1 inches. (1,400mm.) Users say these till the full width inside the gearboxes, 57 inches. The dealer calls it a 4.5 ft tiller.
The decal on the tiller shows it was made for YM2000 in Japan. My YM240 is the US version of YM2000. These are 20 hp at the PTO, 24 engine hp.

(I later got the wheels for the back).

Search Yanmar RS1400 here and on Google. There's lots of info out there.

A couple of points:

There is no shear pin. It will nearly always climb over the roots it encounters in my apple orchard. I'm using my RS1400 on a smaller tractor YM186D, 18 engine hp, and it's not unusual to stall the tractor if I encounter something that raises the nose of the tractor and buries the tiller deeper.

Before using, drain the gearcase, flush with a little diesel if crud is found. There's sure to be water in there that you need to get out.

These are indestructible with one exception: Someone who imported a lot of these advised that the bearing on the far side of the tine shaft, opposite the gearcase, is surely rusted after decades in the rice paddies. Dis-assemble, and replace that bearing with a modern sealed bearing if its not perfect. It's a generic size that any bearing house can get, or its likely to be on Amazon. A bad bearing there can chew up the housing it's installed in.

And a usage note from my experience: I've had to mow before tilling. Trying to till high grass wraps it around the axle. While my neighbor's huge commercial-scale tiller will turn the weeds under.

Here is the RS XX00 Parts Manual. I don't have anything for the YTH series.

Now, within the RS1200, there are many RS120X models too. Most of the time it deals with either the 3-point interface or the direction the tines spin as only locked axis or as 3 groups on 1 axis where as the outer two spin one way and the inner gang spins the opposite way.

Additionally, on the YTOG, we have the Usage Manual for these tillers.

And this manual goes into so much detail of how our tractors and attachments work, it's a must have for everyone. It's also the only manual I've come across from Yanmar in full 130-pages of color.

RS-1400 Fredricks Around 2008 No shear pins that I know of. Gear driven and the Only Pin is on the Drive shaft that's spring loaded and hold it in place in use. Parts are Rare on these old models. We had to Dig this one out of a back of a whare house. Last Yanmar tiller they had and wasn't sure they could get anymore back then. Spalding tractor told me I better go get it. Mothers Garden and with new tines on a YM2000 and it worked really well. Always hand tilled with a walk behind that took me longer to hook it up then till it. Sold it Yrs later for what I gave for it 2 days on CL..

I went to the YTOG and logged in but was unable to find the pdf mentioned above. What am I doing wrong?
Thanks,
Eric
