3rd Function Kit

I have a NX 5010 and want to install a third function kit on it. I installed a WR Long kit on my other tractor that works well but you have to replace the loader handle that incorporates the rocker switch. My question is does anyone make a kit that maintains the existing shape with the switches at your thumb?

Maybe not as a kit. I believe I've seen a few pictures of a modified factory handle that has the switch at the thumb. Can't recall where though. Most likely on this forum.

The only factory control grip that has a similar grip as you have with the switch at the thumb is John Deere that I know about. And the problem with the JD grip & switches is that you have to use relays when wiring them and that is just one more thing to have to deal with.

It would probably be easiest to simply install the required rocker switch in your existing grip. If you take your grip apart, you can see where they have built it to run the wires, just need to cut the hole and file rectangular to accept the mini rocker switch.

This is my NX5010 with the John Deere grip and a home made rocker switch installation. The two bolt holes for mounting the grip to the loader valve shaft don't quite line up. I had to elongate one of the holes in the loader shaft so that I could get both bolts to fit (easily done with a dremel rotary file).



I did not want to mess with relays so I chose a switch with appropriate amperage rating (and then of course included appropriate fusing).

Does your switch work as an actual rocker, (is really 2 switches) or a single button switch operating a diverter valve?

I chose a single pole double throw (SPDT) switch that is “momentary on” in both throws. The switch energizes a double-solenoid control valve (true third function).

I did the John Deer grip and I really don't think using relays is that big of a deal.

I really went "uber geek" on mine building a whole circuit board but you can just hard wire up a couple Automotive relays easy enough and call it a day.

It also adds the ability for a cut-off switch so you can turn off the 3rd function when noting is attached so you don't dead head the hydraulics accidentally.

Hmmm - as usual, I must not be understanding something. My WR Long kit has a replacement loader handle. There is a toggle switch right under my thumb. Toggle down - close. Toggle up - open. As long as you hold the toggle - the grapple action will continue. Release the toggle - it returns to neutral - center position.
