I am looking to purchase a snowblower to use on my 3pt hitch. I have a B7500hst as was wondering if anyone has any suggestions or recommendations. I have a gravel driveway and live in the snow belt of north east Ohio= lots of snow.

Before you commit to a 3pt blower, drive your tractor backwards over your entire snow clearing area.
Don't just imagine it do it. Now have everyone who is going to blow snow do it.
Now do it driving forward. Probably half the tine.
Now if you want to imagine something imagine it is 15 below zero, which would you prefer to do?
Still want a 3pt then ask again.

I have the same tractor - B7500HST. I have a front blower;
I took delivery 02/2001 and it worked great (in CNY); very
capable machine.

I have a 600' gravel driveway and a 50x50 turnaround.

The dealer I bought it from loaned me a B2400 with a 3pt
snowblower until my tractor came in. It worked good, but
it's definitely much easier and quicker to use the front
mount. I think it's worth it to pay the higher price for the
front mount. Snow removal was my primary reason for
the tractor; if I had been able to stick a plow on my
Expedition, I would have done that and not even purchased
the tractor (mainly because of cost).

The 3pt blowers seem to be physically larger than the front
mount, but the front mount handled everything perfect.

If you go 3pt, JRW and Meteor are the two most common near me in Vermont. Mine was about $1100 for a 60", it's the JRW. I have it for a 2710. Both brands are reasonable, and a lot less $$ than a front mount. I couldn't use the front mount anyway, because I need to use the FEL where I can't use a snow thrower. Front mounts are nicer other than the no FEL issue and cost, but I seem to have no trouble driving backwards and find the thing that limits my speed isn't my direction, it's how deep the snow is.

I did put a piece of Lexane on my ROPS to make it easier to see in windy conditions while snow throwing. I'd highly recommend it for a 3pt mount. I'd want a windshield or cab for a front mount if I could get one.

Lexane, eh? Great idea! I'll be trying that out this season. Thanks!

Todd,

That is a good idea. With all this hot, hot weather in Vermont...90s, I'm looking forward to trying my rear mount blower! The combo benefits of a FEL and a blower is often overlooked and I'm glad you brought that up. I have no problem sitting side saddle either. I do it for hours on end currently with my rear blade preparing a building lot.

Got the lexane at the home depot. probably about $30, and simply drilled a few holes in it and tied it to the ROPS. Not exactly high tech /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif.

Can't take credit for the idea, think I saw it on the board here or at JPlan. Snow tends to stick to it and maybe someday I'll come up with a very simple wiper method, but so far just banging on it to knock off most of the snow seems to work fine, and I still see better than without the lexan.

The price difference between the front and the rear is quite a bit. The inconvience of having to look back for some people make it a easy choose between front and rear. I like a loader and I also prefer front mounted snowblowers. The front blowers are normally well built and will blow the snow better than the economy three point units. There are some excellent quality three point units out there to choose from. When pricing often the loader and a three point blower are close to the same price as the front mounted blower, with this type unit you should make sure your neck can withstand turning to see what you are doing.
