So we just had an Out Door Wood stove put in during December. It works great, but I'm going through a lot of wood with this cold spell. I also wasn't stocked up for this increased demand. Long story short, my wife got tired of me being tired from cutting and splitting wood several times a week. She went online and bought me a wood splitter.
Powerhorse Horizontal Dual Split 3-Pt. Log Splitter — 20-Ton, 4in. x 24in. Cylinder | Log Splitters| Northern Tool + Equipment
I've got it hooked up and when I get home, I will get a good picture.
I thought I would give a review, now that I used it a little.
It is 20 ton and runs on the hydraulics from the tractor. I bought my tractor with the backhoe, so I am using the lines that come from under my right foot to the back of the tractor. I did have to buy lines from the splitter to connect to these lines. (I'll make sure to get pictures).
Positives:
* It runs off of the tractor, so 1 engine to maintain
* It is a lot cheaper
* Good quality (Only used over the weekend, so will have to see how it goes)
* Only does 24 inches (Anything bigger and I might not be able to pick up the thicker logs)
* Splits in both directions
* It's a baby blue shade, that almost matches the LS color
Negatives:
* It lays flat instead of up right, so you have to lift the logs on to it (I would not recommend, if you aren't supposed to lift heavy items)
* Only does 24 inches (This is both a + and a - for me, the out door wood stove will handle up to 34 inch logs)
I have a plan to build a box for it. That way I can use the front loader to move it where I'm down trees, but still keep my back hoe attached to dig up the stump. I'll update as I learn more about it.
