kubota L3130
hello i purchase a bobcat quick attach backhoe and want to make it 3 pt hitch mount did anyone do this before that can give me some pointers i have a kubota 3130 and do you have to frame mount it somehow im not worried about converting q-attatch to 3 pt mount the part what i dont know about is the subframe mount i hope ive explain it right thanks in advance /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I believe the 3130 is a small frame tractor and that means that you need a specific subframe or you will most likely exceed the torsional ability of the tractor frame to withstand the loads presented by the backhoe, that is, if the backhoe is of any capacity which you don't state.

If you have a FEL, you will aready have a loader subframe, however, the loader subframe won't distribute the torsional load adequately.

If you have outriggers on a very wide stand, the torsional forces will be minimal, though there is a good chance to break a top link, having a heavy load fully reached out back

I'd disagree with that statement. Even with outriggers fully extended, engaging the bucket in any other plane other than directly in line with the centerline of the tractor and then curling it, will put torsional force on the loader frame and transmit that force through the three point hitch directly to the frame of the tractor. That's why it is not advisable to attach a 3 point backhoe of any sizeable capacity to a tractor without the appropriate subframe. I say sizeable capacity.

Most, if not all 3 point backhoes eliminate the toplink and replace the toplink with a flat bar drilled or flame cut for a link pin. A moveable toplink is not desirable as the backhoe must be locked ridigidly to the tractor, thus the transmission of torsional forces occur. Allowing any lateral play in the backhoe attachment will put undue strain on the lower hitch arms and the sway restraints.

... I was talking about 3 point hitch mounted, not about a subframe mounted that uses the 3pt hitch to lift it onto its mounting points.... /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Renze:

If you read the original post, the poster was questioning the need or the deletion of a subframe to which I replied that his unit is a small frame tractor and a specific subframe would be advisable. My previous post still stands in as much as we don't have the facts to ascertain the actual size of the QA mounted backhoe.

Personally speaking and from a sound engineering standpoint, I for one would never hang any 3 point backhoe of substantial capacity on just a TPH whether CAT 1 or CAT2. The forces exerted by the backhoe acting through the lower arms can and will transmit a great amount of stress on the transmission case of the tractor. A subframe allows that force to be transmitted to the main frame of the tractor and adds ridigity to the case itself.

5030,

I agree with you. Although I have something smaller, I'm sold on the subframe. I've been able to (accidentally) raise both the back and the front of my TC24 using the BH digging or prying, etc.

Subframe a must!

its a pretty small backhoe im working on building a subframe for it i would rather be safe then sorry thanks for the input

Without going to a dealer and looking underneath of a 3130 (and probably getting my knees wet and dirty), but relying on memory and looking at my neighbors 3710, I'd say that a couple of lengths of 1/2" x4" mild steel from the 3point lower arm boss to the frame would probably do it. That, and the addition of a belly strap of the same material welded across the two side rails just in front of the drawbar mount. You might have to bore a hole for the transmission drain however.

Even my M9, as big and beefy as it is, takes a subframe if you want to apply a backhoe. Cast steel transmission cases have a tremendous inherent strength, they just don't like torsional stress, they crack. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I have a case Skidsteer backhoe that was converted to a subframe mounted on my L3410. We bought the subframe kit and mounted it on the tractor , then attached the backhoe unit to the subframe.
