I am a few weeks away from ordering a new Kubota B7800. This will be my first tractor and I have a question about how a 3PH works.

Specifically I want to know when you lower an attachment using the 3PH, does it exert downward pressure on the attachment for it to dig into the ground? Or is the weight of the attachment the only force pushing the attachment down towards the ground?

There is no down pressure. Some people will add weight to their attachment to make them "bite" more.

That will depend on the tractor model: some do, some don't. You can/should add iron weights to the attachement to give it some downforce. A rear spoiler will add about 1500 lbs of downforce but this must be run on a Speedway or SuperSpeedway tractor. If you need front downforce (tractor is tight) add it to the left front becaused the left side tire is the 'sticky' tire.

No on #1 and correct on #2.

But you can get down-force kits I believe.

Most of the time down force is not needed.

Welcome to TBN :D! There are no silly questions; there might be stupid responses . The membership of TBN tries to be helpful so keep us informed as to your tractor acquisition and keep your posts coming :). Jay

PS: For a B7800 add weight to your attachments and out of curiousity what attachments are you considering?

Technically gravity is the only force that is pulling it towards the ground. But on the 7800 the hydraulics will not supplement that force. You have to rely totally on gravity :)

The B7800 is a great tractor. I love mine and it has clearly changed my life.
Depending on the attachments and what you are doing you want the implements to float over the ground anyway. Implements that benefit from
down pressure usually have kits for that purpose, you do however need a rear remote installation for that as well

Thanks for the replies. The first atachment I'm getting is a 66" Woods Box Blade. After reading this forum for the past year it seems like I can get a lot of uses out of it for the money. My plans include maintaining a 600 foot driveway, some landscaping work around the house and planting food plots for our hunting camp.

I'm also looking at a rear blade. But that will probably wait until later.

With the box blade, I never find I need weights. You can angle it with the top link to make it more aggressive and you can put the scarifier tines down to pull it down more. I find it a very useful implement for landscaping tasks.
