Problem with keeping implement in position. Set bush hog at correct position and it drops down completely. I must hold the lift control lever to keep at correct height. Let go of the lever and the implement slams to ground.
70's model ford 3600.

You don't mention it.. but can we assume that if you let got of the lever that the lever 'slams' to the bottom of the quadrant while the implement slams to the ground?

if so.. it's a simple friction disc.. about a 2 $ item... take the lift handle off the lift control, remove nut.. slide it off.. put on new disc, put back together and tension properly... probably 10 minute job unless it's siezed up to the shaft.

A new 4x4 tractor would also solve the problem. I like old classic rifles and cars.... New tractors with turbos spin my wheels. They have made such improvements since the 70s it is like driving an automobile.

There has been alot of belle's and whistles additions to tractor technology since the 70's.. but the basic turbo, gear and rubber to the ground tractor under all the new fiberglass is pretty similar... if not, a bit underdesigned compaired to the 70's models. I'me sure my tractors fromt he 50's thru the 70's will have a total lifespan longer than CUT's made in the last 5 years..

Is that on an hour used comparison?? Or is it the number of years spent sitting in the shed??:D

The shed has to be shaped like a pyramid.....and the tractor will last forever:)

I'm sure there are many countless thousands of hours on my collection of tractors.. hard to get the character marks, dings, bends, damage and significant wear of moving parts I have fixed on these machines from setting parked in a shed.

You see running old worn out tractors out in the fields today and on jobs for 2 prime reasons.

1, old and running because they were built good, even overbuilt, back when stuff like that mattered to the average purchaser... and dollar per hp.. they can still earn their keep out on a job.

2, worn out because they were used for all they were worth, run hard and put away wet, fixed only when absolutely needed, and usually with whatever was on hand, and it worked because they were a good well built machine.

A 40-50-60 year old tractor that runs and works is not here because it was a hunk of junk when it was built...

True; but then how many hours did it work?? That is the question.

At the rate my Plastic Tractor is piling up hours this year it will be bound to last forever too.:D

How many tractor farming hours do you do put on per year on your spread?
