Tractor
John Deere 4300
I was at the dealer today and convinced myself to upgrade from my 99 4300 mainly because I would like a backhoe. I like the size of my 4300 and wanted some more HP so it looks like the 3720. I am waiting for the quote to be emailed to me and fall out of my chair probably. I was hoping some of you could soften the blow and give me and idea of what to expect. The tractor I was looking at is:
3720 Open station, with R4s, EHydro, Hood Guard
Power Beyond
Mid PTO
375 Backhoe, 16" bucket
300CX loader with HD 61" bucket
72" auto connect mid mount mower

I built it online at Deere and it looks to be $42K MSRP. Gulp!

Also any suggestions on options to include or not would be great. It has been awhile since I had to purchase and the options now are as confusing as buying a car.

Thanks to all for your help!

Strongly consider the skid steer attachment for the FEL. Now you can use any pallet fork or other skid steer attachment. SS attachments are much cheaper than the similar JD attachment. IMHO, it should be standard on every FEL. If you get it, delete the standard bucket and order a JD 66" foundry skid steer bucket. It is about the same shape/dimensions and capacity as a standard bucket but much more heavy duty and costs about the same as a standard bucket. Usually any dealer who sells JD skid steer equipment can get the foundry bucket. I think the 61" bucket is too narrow. It barely covers the tires.

Also consider the air ride seat. Nearly every thing else can be added later if needed for not much more cost.

My rule of thumb for JD is 15% off MSRP for final price. 18% off is possible. As always, your discount may vary.

I pretty much agree with radman. Get the FEL with skid steer type bucket attach and expect a good deal in the range of 15 - 18% off list. I'd also get the 3ph with the lower arm extensions for ease of attaching implements if you don't already have that in the deal. Good luck.

Sunnyside

Good suggestion with the extended lift arms. Cheaper to buy it now then add it later.

Radman1 thanks for that suggestion on the Skidsteer loader attachment. They had one at the dealer and I did not realize that is what is was. There are a ton of options with that hook up. Wow what a mistake not to get that. I assume that I should add the 3rd svc and plumb the loader for it now too?

Sunnyside360 I could not find the 3ph with the lower arm extensions. Is the LVB25308 Telescoping Draft Links what you meant?

Thanks for you help. I want to get this order done right.

Yes, telescoping draft links is the name of the item. If you use a 3 pt Speeco, Harbor Freight or JD quick hitch, I don't think the telescopic drafts links are needed. The Harbor Freight quick hitch is really a bargain IMHO. (get the one with the wider spacing between the hooks.)

On the Jd configurator, open the customize box and click on the FEL of your choice. At the bottom of that window there are two choices. One for miscellaneous and the other accessories. The skid steer attachment and 3rd hydraulic function lines and hoses are under accessories. You will need the rear 3rd SVC for the FEL lines and hoses. The rear SVC is relatively cheap. You will also see other buckets listed that can be used with the skid steer attachment if you want the JD green bucket. The foundry bucket will be black but it really is a superior bucket and is was cheaper than the JD buckets. However, the foundry bucket will weigh more and decrease your overall lift. the 3rd hydraulic function lines and hoses are a little pricey at $351. If you don't want to buy them, just run a set of hoses from the back SVC and tie them to the loader. I have done that in the past and may cost $50-75 for hoses and couplers.

I have a very similar set-up in a 3520. Two differences are that I have the 485 BH and no mid-mount mower. Since those are the two most expensive "extras" (>$10,000 combined?) I'll offer my $.02 since as I understand the 3x20 series have the same hydraulics, you just get a few more ponies under the hood.

The BH is used more than I ever thought but, it is not industrial grade & there are times where I wish it had more break-out power. If that implement is a main or primary use item, in retrospect, for the type of money you're talking about spending, you should look at the JD110. (Check with AKFISH or CURLYDAVE) Also power beyond maybe a part of the BH package but I can't recall.

I have the mid-PTO but in hindsight I guess the only reason I got it was for resale or the future addition of mid-mount mower or snow blower. After one winter I find the HD bucket sufficient for my snow moving and I probably won't be getting a mid-mount mower or selling my tractor anytime soon. Call it a dead-money option for me. (YMMV) That said the auto-attach mower you selected I don't have the price on, but personally i just scored a used 84" Landpride RFM. The significant money saved over the mid-mount mower helped to subsidize the 485BH and I find it very easy to move around and close cut edges.....slooowly

Finally, I'd try and get additional lighting from the dealer if you're not getting the cab. I got one rear work light but could really use a front one on the ROPS as well.

Good luck.

What I configured is below. Did I get it right? Are the R4s the correct ones? There were 2 choices. Deere MSRP is $44,405.00 so a fair price from the dealer would be $36-$37k. The dealer is way off @ $40k. Thanks guys for all your help.

I've just paid a dealer $5,700 for a new 375 backhoe with 13" bucket. Already had power beyond, and my brother and I installed the mounting kit on our 3320 in about 2 hours of easy work with a pneumatic wrench -- 20 bolts in all, I think. Biggest pain is that the rear wheels need to come off.

Once adjusted properly, the rockshaft-assist mounting system works perfectly -- two pins, two hoses and you're working.

Early days digging but unit seems to have plenty of power. It's not a 110 TLB, but 110's don't have a/c cabs, either!

Thanks radman and sunnyside for all your help. Just made a deal on the tractor I listed. You two guys made some great recommendations. Now it is time to clean up the 4300 and sell it. Be sad to see her go. She has been rock solid and a true worker but I really need the BH for my work now to dig small trenches. It was becoming cumbersome to keep renting and way more costly. I only need to use it once a month to make the payment. Best part is the 0% for 42 mo. so I don't have to toss out working capital.
