My 3720 has 35 hours on it. The owners manual says change the oil at 200. WOW The hour meter started flashing today which means some kind of service schedule. My dealer said it was time to change the oil and it would reset it self. Does this make sense? I planned on changing the oil at 40 hours anyways.

First oil is at 50 hours with tranny fluids and cleaning the filters. That's a little early for lights to be flashing.

I changed the oil in mine for the first time around 20 hours. I'm always leery about any strange bits floating around in the engine from the manufacturing process. It's a small price for peace of mind IMO.

I wouldn't worry about that too much. Parts float around at 10 hours too besides there's an oil filter and a screen on the oil pump. I guess something could lodge between the piston and the wall but that's not too likely and it could happen at 1/2 hours too.

the particles that do destruction are the really fine ones that abrade bearings and rod pins over time. The best thing you can do is drill a hole in your drain plug and put a powerful magnet in it (NdFeB), when you change your oil. We used to do that on racing engines and I believe Porsche still does.

The service reps at the JD dealership are pretty strong on the idea of waiting for the full 50 hours before changing the break-in oil so I follow the advice and wait. The break in oil appears a bit thin during the heat of the summer and I'm usually tempted to change early but I have resisted the urge.

There is something very rewarding about dropping the thin fluid out and putting in a new dose of 15-40 oil. That break in oil when hot runs like sewing machine oil.

I didn't say I was rational! The dealer recommended that I change at 20 hours and they were supposed to do it while it was being repaired  but they forgot, so I did it myself. I will wait quite a while before the next one though.

Not challenging you PT, just giving some advice.
Best,

Might want to consider changing your username before your oil. Folks here might get the wrong idea LOL!

Think he was referring to the OP's name being a New Holland model, TC33DA.
You are correct sir in my reference - As for Pushing Tin - I'm glad there's somebody that can do all that directing. Now back to your regularly scheduled programming.

Heh, showing my tractor ignorance. Sorry.

Sorry, I thought you were referring to me. :ashamed:

What's the trick to changing my user name? I know how to do the oil, but the name is tricky. I sold the TC33 and went green. Owned the TC33 for 30 days. Drove a 3720 cab and party was over.

You can't change a username. All you could do is re-register and never use the old one again. Proves why is not a great idea to link your username to specific model or manufacturer.

Kenny is right. I registered when I had the New Holland TC40D and must have assumed I would have the New Holland for the rest of my days. The New Holland was a great tractor but in the end I cheated on New Holland and bought the 4720 Deere.

Remember, just like getting the tattoo with the name of your wife/girl friend, times change and we don't always end up with the original. Getting a new user name on TBN is like getting the tattoo removed. You can do it, but its painful.

I remember guys in the service getting a tattoo of some girl's name and a week later getting a 'Dear John' letter. Now they had to go out and find another girl with the same name or wait 35 years for it to turn into a purple blur!

Ah, the beauty of a bar next to a tattoo parlor.

I'm probably different than most. I created my username only after owning my 755 for 16 years. With still low hours and being absolutely troublefree and in great shape I saw no reason or need in the future to change. I retired in the house I built 20 years ago with the tractor I bought to be my last one. Before the 755 I had a JD 430 for several years. It was small enough to be convenient to transport until I built the house. So with my JD history even if the 755 should blow up tomorrow and need a replacement it would be another Deere and I would still be proud to use the JD755 name. So while I completely agree it is typically not a good idea to use a tractor model for your user name, there can be rare exceptions. Or is it well-done exceptions? Anyway, that's just me, JD755.

Don't blame you, the 755 is a little sweetie!
