I finally got my r3's put on my 3720 (Instead of R4's which I had on it and had on my former 3320). I need to remember not to load them next time (I always do this). Yea they get great traction but I forgot how much loading them ruins the ride quality (Not that it was phenominal with the empty R4's).

Anyway, I'm pleased with the R3's. They actually get BETTER traction going up hills on grass than my loaded R4's on my 3320 used to get. (If I was going up a hill bouncing in 2wd (mowing) one wheel would spin at the first opportunity - I'd usually have to go extremely slow or use 4wd). With the R3's the contact patch to the grass is huge and I think they contour better - Didn't have to use 4wd once. Same downhill. I'd always 'skid' going down one short but steep slope if I bounced just a little with the loaded R4's. I can still do this with the r3's but it's much less.

Anyway, on to the AWSOME item. ;) I got 6" unverferth wheel extensions. - Yes, 6", I brought the stance out a foot. One thing I realized is that the R3 wheels have a lot more dish than the R4's. On the R4.s min to max only is 1.6" difference. On the R3's Min to max is 5.2" - Makes it worth it.

I'm now running a 65.9" stance in the NARROW position (Yahoo). I used to run a 59.7" stance in the WIDE R4 position. Should I dare to flip the R3's to their wide position I'll be running a 71.9" stance.

Anyway, these weren't cheap but the tractor feels so much more stable mowing. I went another pass (maybe two) sideways on a small but steep hill in my front yard before flipping to up and down and it still feels steep but it did feel stable. I'll give some feedback on how they do with the loader when I have a chance to use it .

Remember when looking at the pics that these are in the NARROW positions. I have the fender extensions and they still stick way out. ;)

Great set-up for your 3720 for doing most anything. I bet you mower deck is also a few inches higher off the ground and it appears your deck is still a few inches wider than your wheels which is good in my opinion. My 4 mos old 3720 has filled R4's and I know what you mean by riding "rough". Good to get some feedback on the wheel extensions. I've been agonizing over what width to get (been leaning towards 3" for each side).

Cool setup Orlo!! Been thinking about the extensions for my R4's.
I also am unclear about your rough ride comments, my filled R4's are noticeably smoother than unfilled. I do notice from you pics that it appears your tires are aired up pretty hard, I only run 10lbs on my rear R4's, works perfect. FWIW - I found that less than 10lbs, created too much sidewall flex on side hills, 10lbs gives a good ride yet still stiff enough for side hill use.

Thanks for the post, Orlo.

Do you know what the stock width of the R3's would be in both positions? The last decision I have to make for my 3320 is which tires I want. I did not realize until reading this post that the rims can be turned either way to change the width.

Thanks again.

Nick

Jomo:

Thanks for the tip. I thought about airing them down - I may a little bit.

Killer_B: These are from the 3000 series manual.

Min Max
For the large R4's 58.1 59.7
Small R4's 57.3 58.9
R3's 53.9 59.1
R1's 52.4 68.4

Why they have such a little offset on the R4's I don't know. It would be much
better if they had a better offset when flipping them.
