Tractor
JD 4520 w/ cab and FEL
Sorry for all the questions, but would this be a suitable tractor for my food plotting? As I mentioned before I have a 100 acres. I'll always rent out my 20 acres of tillable ground to be planted by a local farmer. However, I will be bushogging some of the 20 acres, maybe half, and planting about 5 acres in food plots with a rotary tiller. I found one I liked and the price is right.

No known problems with the 3720?

You will be fine with that tractor as long as your land is not very steep. You will be good with a 72" tiller, even though deere says stay with the 65. Really look at the size tractor you want now, as the 3720 and the 4120 and 4320 are not priced far apart.

numu98, love the profile pic. Do you have ostrich? I've always wanted one...are they difficult to have?

Thanks for the info. I looked at the price differences of the 3720 to the two others you mentioned and they're not a lot different in cost, thanks for the rec'd.

I am looking at the 3720 also. I want a cab, but the stability concerns me. I talked to a 3720 owner and he sais use your brain and be carefull.

My Dad has a 3720 (I put most the hour on:D) and it really is a good reliable tractor. I think in the 5 years we've had it, the only real problems were the seat switch (coroded wire) and the fuel sensor. The fuel sensor on some of the 3x20 series go out some times so the guage will always read the same amount, our says just under full even though it may be empty. Other than that, it has always been a reliable machine that is easy to start in cold weather and will never hesitate to impress you. Stability is iffy but if you know your comfort zone it isnt as bad as it may be portrayed. I have run it on hills recently that i would have NEVER operated on a year ago so once you have your comfort zone accomplished you will know your limit. Just carry your bucket and implements low, this lowers your center of gravity making it a bit more stable. good luck with your purchase but dont be afraid to try out other models and brands. I am just speaking from my experience.

...TC33...I hadn't hear that, are tractors with cabs top heavy for just the 3720 or is that with all cab tractors?

From the standpoint of physics alone a cab on any tractor will raise the Center of Gravity to some extent. Is it enough to make a difference - depends on make / model. From reading posts here on TBN, I'd say this comment is made more often regarding the JD 3x20 series than most others.

Bush Hogging 20 acres.??.....I would want nothing smaller than 7 foot attachments.....8 foot would be better.

Go big.

I have been reading all your questions and your varied needs for a tractor. Your trying to cover allot of bases with one tractor....and your not very experinced in the seat.

Personally I think if you can hire out some of the larger projects you may be money ahead. Stay with the smaller equipment a while and build some seat time. Maybe move up in size in the future.....but stay with something the size your now asking about (3x20 JD open station). (my opinion)

If you buy it right.....and find you want something else....these are easy to sell or trade again. They fit so many small operators needs. Good size to learn with too.....and the right size for getting around in the woods (I have mostly wooded land...and you couldnt give me a cab).

Of course opinions are like............ everbody has one. ;)

I agree completely. Dont base tractor need on the big jobs that may need to be done once or very infrequently. Hire out these big jobs to be done by owners of big equipment. Better to pay someone for a days work then you pay for a bigger then needed tractor financed over years of monthly payments.
