Does anyone know how to tell if my 357xp is the EPA version? I'm guessing it's not but it makes a difference when it comes to the piston and cylinder. I'm not up to date on the whole EPA thing but thought it just had to do with a catalytic converter in the muffler.

I pulled the muffler and noticed some scoring on the piston. I got it used and I know I worked the heck out of it on some very hot days. The saw has more than earned it's keep and for $200 (for a non epa) or $170 (EPA) I can get a new jug, piston and ring. I can also check the fit of the carb to the jug to see if it's leaking air and leaning the saw out.

They will have green gas caps and the muffler will usually have "CAT" stamped on it and it also make a difference as to when it was built that info is in the serial number, in other words if its a 1999 no cat 2009 probably has cat.

Also since you have the can off look inside and if you can see there is a pipe inside going up to the outlet its a cat. hth
