She started grinding and popping out of reverse, so I adjusted the shuttle clutch linkage underneath. Now she doesn't like forward, popping or refusing to go in gear.

I can adjust the other direction, but I think I need a little more "throw" to the cable.

When fully in gear, no slippage, no grinding, no popping out.

I've been moving the steering column more lately and think that's when the problems started.

Is it correct that bottom linkage adjustment adjusts for center (between forward and reverse), and the top linkage adjusts how far it throws?

I'm considering grinding down the lever stop.

There is a LITTLE play in the lever bushings and such, which is age/use related. I don't see a need to replace yet, just need the extra throw.

Need to use her today if possible.

Thanks!

Are you talking about the shuttle select lever F-N-R?

Yes, Forward-Reverse shuttle clutch lever. Yeah, I know it isn't a real shuttle-CLUTCH, sorry for the confusion ;)

I'm half thinking I should just weld a longer lever on the selector lever so the throw is longer and let the cable flex for any overage.

Okay, I fixed the problem. 3 screws on the bottom of the steering column, removed that panel. 2 screws on the top panel, removed it.

I used a cutoff wheel to remove approx 1/4" off each of the stops, forward and reverse.

I tilted the steering column forward all the way and adjusted the linkage in the column until the amount of travel moved the maximum amount forward and reverse. The lever wouldn't quite touch either stop.

I also tilted the steering column back and the movement was similar.

Starting and running allowed excellent and positive shifts each and every time.

IMHO, it's a good solution

It's back :(

Forward has the fast grind, not engaging. I'm going to pull it apart again. It's possible something is flexing, maybe the cable bracket on the column?

Anyone have other ideas?

I hate Teleflex cables for this very reason.

I had the same problem with my 2810. Thought it was cable issue as well. Replaced cable and problem was still there. My problem was the bolts in cover that holds the shift fork were loose. It's an easy check. Remove the cable, bolts, and cover to inspect. I had one bolt missing and one loose. I was lucky enough to even find the missing bolt with a magnet.

Thanks guys for the replies ;)

I tore the column apart again and cut off the rear stop completely and adjusted the cable for maximum forward movement. Same problem :(

Pretty sure it's in the shifter inside the trans...

I'm going to schedule time to pull the inspection plate and hopefully the fork or jamb bolt or shaft is slipping and can be easily fixed.

Once FULLY in gear, no problems, doesn't try to pop out.

Any thoughts? It's a new thing for me to be inside a transmission...

Take the cover off you will see your problem. It's. It a bad job at all. You will have to drain some of oil Before pulling cover off.
