ford 3400
I just bought a ford 3400 with fel. Had a leak on a qd so I changed it with a different style. The loader seem slower now, but did lose a bit of fluid. So I want to first check fluid and want to know what type of fluid do I use. The fluid now is clear looking. There is a plug on the fel right upright. Do I just add fluid there until it runs out or what? I also have a leak around the pto lever. Does it have a seal in it? Where do I find one at a reasonable price and how hard will it be to change it? What fluid do I use there. I also think I read that some one said in an older ford fel you could use 10 w 30 oil in it. Is this possible? Thanks for any help I can get.

1, i reccomend you get a service and owners and aprts manual for your new chariot. it will serve you well.

2, you can always go tot he NH parts site online and lookup parts diagrams for your machine. Helps you visualize what you are looking at.. can save the pics and print the parts lists too.

3, while the hyds would likely work on any 10 to 30w oil.. most people put a utf in there that meets the m2c134 spec. this is fine for the tractor tranny and diffy/hyds. as well.

any time you have reduced function after repalceing a QD, check it. the new qd may not be seating correctly, or mating well with the old connector. remove and reseat and see what it does. if you have a new, correct mate for the qd , other end, install it and check.

the plug on the upright is where you fill and check the hyd fluid some have a dipstick there made onto the plug

second the pto lever has a oring on it that seals you must remove the running board then the pto lever assembly and then remove the handle (should have a roll pin holding it on to the shaft then remove the shaft.

also i always use utf hyd oil that meet nh spec

Thanks to Whodat and Soundguy. I have gotten some utf and a manual. I put the old qd back on after carfully taking out and putting it back in. I don't know if connecting and disconnecting or the o ring thing did it, but it quit leaking. I also had the crazy idea to rap some teflon tape around the pto lever where it was leaking. It did stop it leaking, but I thought once I started using it it would leak again. Used it for mowing and still no leaking. Thanks again for your help.

have to be carefull with them qd's. some don't like to mate fully with their other half. causes all sorts of leak and flow problems.
