3204 and 682 Hydro
Just wanted to say hello everyone. I have owned a CubCadet 682 Hydro for many years, I just love that machine. It still works FINE but I ran into an opportunity to what I think to be a newer model that should compare to the same quality, a (Cub Cadet) 2002' 3204 model. Now what does the knowledgable forum think of that comparison? I am just getting familiar w/ the 3204, and I like it, but I do so miss the dashboard forward backward control arm, versus the foot pedals. Oh well.... Now, I absolutely HATE the Reverse MOWING/PTO disconnect!!!! I am the only operater of this machine and there are no children near my mowing area so I am completely comfortable w/ my owner ability to EXECUTE this maddening functionality!!!! My 682H just smoothly go's back and forth and back and forth mowing non-stop efficently, safely and effectively! (Using that beautiful transmission lever on the dash!) How can I get that baby on the 3204????? Now that would be a dream come true! Seeing not to do so here, I am going to ask the forum how to disconnect that anti-reverse PTO Kill madness on another forum area - yet to figure that out. Thanks in advance. DSCN0325.jpgDSCN0826.JPG
Oh and I live in Downingtown, PA. And The 3204 pic was the day I went to look at the 3204 for sale and the lack of chain tighteners was (I hop) just for sale demonstration, and not an idiots way of assignment, or lack there of. (I have now determined the previous owner is as mechanically inclined as my toothbrush - but it only has 240 hours, so how much damage could he have done?)

Hi Charlie & Welcome to TBN!

Nice looking machines you have there. I have the slightly new 1811 than your 682 - I bought new in 1989. The older series are a bit tougher and more metal than the newer ones IMO.

But I dont hear any bad things about the 3000 series - they are more modern with tilt steering, power steering, more goodies and plastic but they are still good working machines.

I disabled the reverse mowing switch on my 1811 in the first hour of owning it (metal reed switch inside the dash I bent out of the way).

Yours should have a reverse mode on the ignition switch I think too that allows cutting in reverse. You can also find the switch probably on the reverse pedal and improvise a fix there too.

Good luck with your two cub cadets!
