Comparison 318 vs 400

hello I have two tractor i could buy, the prices are the same,I just can't make up my mind.the 318 or the 400.

I assume you are just looking for a lawn mower???

There isnt a ton of difference in them two. They are about the same size and power. (the 400 is a few HP more).

The 318 probabally has the onan engine. Some people love em, some hate em. The 400 will most likely have the kohler.

I wouldnt base my decsion on model. I would base it on overall condition and how they run.

The 400 is going to be much older. 1983 was the last year. The 318 is newer and was made until 1992. But they are both pretty old. I would buy the one that is in the best condition.:thumbsup:

Actually I would probabally buy neither. Just something about spending that kind of $$$ on 20-30 year old lawnmowers:confused2:

Be careful with the 400. They were a unique model. Fairly tough to find attachments for it and only the attachments made for the 400 will work on it. I think there is much more availability of attachments for the 318.

They were both great machines. Id choose whichever one was in the best condition. The 400 was the first model in the 400 series. It was available with a 3PH. All other attachments were proprietary to that model, whereas the 318 shared attachments with the 140 and the 300, 316 and several others. These attachments were more common. Onan parts rae expensive however.

It will cost about 2400 for a honda replacement for the 318. I'd wonder of the cost and the condition.
