This would be a no brainer for me.. The 455 is a much better deal. That is not a great price for a 318 IMHO. The 455 though.. that price Rocks if it is in good shape with that low of hours.

If the 455 is a Diesel, which many of them are, I would get that. It will last longer, cut better and use less fuel. Easy decision for me.

More details on the 455... ? Deck size, Engine, Year (not a big deal if taken care of)

Rick, all 455's are diesel. The gas models are the 445 (fuel injected) and the 425 (carbureated).

That is a screaming deal on the 455 if the hours are true and it is in good shape. I am not that familiar with the 318, other than I know it is highly sought after by the collector market. The hand operated hydro is a deal killer to me. The 4x5 series has twin touch pedals for the hydro.

I wonder why someone who just always recomends Cub Cadet, is out looking at Deere mowers again. JC

I already have:
Kubota
Cub Cadet
Bolens
Wards MTD PowerCraft
Amy thing wrong with adding another brand to the stable?
Your comment seems to imply I should not be considering JD; Is there something wrong with them that I should stay away from a JD?;)
Surely a JD couldn't be worse than the PowerCraft-or is it?:D

Because I still need an extra mowing tractor to replace the PowerCraft.
Also $3500 for A JD 455 Garden Tractor seems to be more than competive with what the Box Stores offer.
Are my reasons satisfactory ?;)

I would recommend the 455 for two major reasons. One, the diesel is a fuel pincher, and is incredibly reliable and long lasting. Second, there is still plenty of parts and service availability for the 455's Yanmar diesel engine.

The 318 is a great classic tractor, don't get me wrong, but its Onan Performer 18 gas engine is not only no longer produced, there are no new parts being produced for it either with Onan no longer making small engines. It's also sort of a gas hog too, especially if you think your Cub's Kohler Command is a gas hog :) Just something important for future consideration.

I'm tempted to go for the JD 455 but need some clearification on a few things first.
1*What years were the 455s produced?
I don't know how old this one is.
2* IF I was to get it I would need a tiller and a front blade for it.
3*What's the Chance of finding a tiller and front blade for it?
4* Were all the 455s four wheel drive or did they come in 2 wheel drive also?
