Cant decide
Hi all ! Anybody know the performance of these tractors? My dealer claims the displacment and torque are more in line with the 4310 and its A big leap above the 4210. Im not well versed in knowledge about this so I was hoping I could ask some questions:

What does displacment do for the performance ?
What does torque do ?

I have 4.5 acres, 1.5 is lawn. (I have A mower) The rest is A flat over grown corn field with some old chicken coops that need removing. Will be rough cutting the field along with some loader work, snow removal, ect. Do you feel this tractor would work for me? I sat on one and the fit was good. Heres the package price i was quoted :
3120, R4 tires, cruise upgrade, power beyond, I-match hitch w/2 bushing kits. 300x loader w/61" heavy bucket, ballast box, hood guard, 61" tooth bar. Frontier RB1072 rear blade, and LX5 cutter. All for $23684 includes tax and delivery. Sorry for rambling. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Mike

Dirtboy,

Your dealer is correct. The 3120 would be more close in performance to the old 4310 than the 4210. The big issue here is torque. Torque is the factor that separates diesel engines from gasoline engines, especially torque "under the curve" which means power when the engine is not running at maximum throttle. If I am not mistaken the 3120 is a 1.5L engine, like the old 4310, where the 3320 is a 1.6L. This does not matter that much except it, combined with a few changes has upped the torque on the 3120. It is now ALMOST exactly the same as last year's 4310. For the work you are doing and the fact you are on flattish ground, the 3120 should do a fine job. I would upgrade the loader to the 300cx model (not the 300x) and would downgrade the box blade to a 65" from the 72". The 3120 will pull the BB 1072, just not well. Although the MX5 cutter is much better than the LX5, if one is not doing heavy brushwork, I do not think it would be worth the extra money. With regard to price, it's anyone's guess what is fair, as these machines are so new. From the numbers the price does not seem outrageously high, nor exceptionally good, either. I suggest seeing if you could deal on a loader upgrade for the same price, then you are getting a pretty good deal. Unfortunately, I do not know what the sales tax would be in your state.

Thanks John. Our sales tax is 8.25%. Gotta love NY !!!! I think going with the smaller blade makes more sense. Has anybody actually performed some in field work with this tractor?I would be very interested to hear those reports.

Thanks Mike

Dirtboy,

Please forgive me!!! I misread your comment about the RB1072. I thought I read BB1072, for box blade. My apologies for that. The 3120 would easily pull a 72" rear blade. Have no worries about that. It was a BOX blade I was concerned about. Sorry!
