Hinomoto E2804, Hinomoto N239,
I just bought a Hinomoto C174. I ordered an operator's manual for an Allis Chalmers 5015. Everything is identical except the PTO. The manual says do not use multi viscosity oil in this engine but it doesn't say why. It says to use straight 30w. I use Rotella 15w40 in my other tractors. What will it hurt to use the same in this one?

Not that this specifically answers your question.. but you can draw a few conclusions from it.

My op manual for my vintage 50's gas ford tractors say to use either 30w or 40w oil depending on temperature, and 90wt oil in the tranny/hyds.

However, my NH dealer now reccomends their 15w-40 diesel rated oil in most applications, and 134d utf type oil in the trans and hyds/diffies.. etc...

Sounds like they are just updating everything across the baord to their 'new' spec.. etc.

IMHO.. If the engine called for 30w oil, and still had good pressure when hot at idle.. I'd try the 15/40 and see what it did with hot idle pressures. if still ok.. go for it.. otherwise.. revert to 30w oil.
