3038 hydro PROBLEM?

Cutting grass today with finish mower and way to heavy grapple on the front. Going down steep hill next to house and tractor started to slide. Was in two wheel drive. Grass not wet. Stood on the brake and would not stop. Right wheel going forward, left going backward! Yanked throttle back and got under control and stopped. Bucke led seat belt at this point! Made another round, and sure enough did it again, but ready for it this time(**** with that fool me once BS). Never could get it to do it again? Any ideas, other to wear seat belt all the time.

OP here. Maybe didn't explain enough. I don't mow around the house in 4 wheel drive, tears the yard up too much. Tires are loaded. When the slide started, my foot was OFF the drive pedals but it was still driving forward under power but the full pressure on the brake would not stop it and as stated, tires were "driving" in opposite directions.

Its still the same answer, take the grapple off or put it in 4 wheel drive.
There is nothing wrong with your tractor.
Everything you described is normal when the rear tires are slipping downhill

You could apply the differential lock while on the slope to help also. Weight on the front will lighten the back wheels. Tires would not be driving in opposite direction, but it may appear to be that way. Just how differentials operate.

Yep, take the grapple off, and add a couple hundred pounds sitting on top of your finish mower if you don't want to use 4wd. Your brakes only affect the rears. If all your weight is on the front you'll coast unless you're in 4wd, in which case braking is transferred up front through the drivetrain.
