trying to decide between a 3032e and a 3038e price difference is around a $1000.00 more hp is nice but not having a turbo (3032e) is also a good thing.
How is the torque on both of the tractors what are the real world differances Randy

According to JD website the engine torque is the same for both tractors...62.7 ft/lb.

Both tractors are relatively light in weight so getting the maximum hp to the ground would require ballast, I assume.

People are happy with them and I would consider the 3032e myself. Good basic tractor.

The higher HP on a similar sized (weight) tractor is useful IF you need the HP for big-time PTO purposes.....such as larger than normal sized brush hogs, snow blowers, or tillers.

I think you wont get any more work out of them for FEL, Plows or Disking....as these tractors tend to spin out rather than bog down from lack of power.

I think oftentimes the extra HP (while nice to have) goes unused.

That's my story....and I'm sticking to it. ;)

I went with the 3038E after test driving the 3032E. My son John is a John Deere factory trained mechanic. He makes the point that, in 12 years at a JD Dealer, he almost never saw a turbo failure.

If you let the turbo cool a few minutes before shut-down it should last the life of the tractor.

I just figured the extra HP might come in handy someday.

Tractors are low power low speed machines, that said when you move up to the higher ground speeds or run uphill the higher hp is a real help and is noticeable. At very low ground speeds the difference between the two tractors will seem to diminish and either of the two tractors can suffer from wheel slip easily.

so since I mainly use a 72 inch rear discharge finish mower woud the 3038e be better I now mow with a kubota l2250 (23 hp pto) Randy

How much PTO HP you'll need with that mower will depend on how tough and how tall the grass is. I want to only mow once every 3 weeks in the summer. I have Bahia that can get 3' tall in 3 weeks with lots of rain. I need the extra HP of the 3038E.

Even with the extra PTO HP I need to sharpen the blades every 3 or 4 mowings.

Yep, cows grazing Bahia grass tend to wear down their teeth too.:D
That is a tough grass even though it doesn't appear to be.

I guess you slaughter them before they need dentures.

I have a Arens Home Depot riding mower for the areas too tight for the tractor. Home Depot sends me a new set of blades free each year. Last years set was worn down to an inch wide. There's a local guy that's at the Flea Market every Sat & Sunday selling blades for just about every thing ever made. he does a good business.

I have the 3032e and wish it had a turbo once in awhile going up steep hills. The tractor will some times bog down if the throttle is not around 2500 rpms. It still is a good tractor but the turbo would be a bonus.

When we were originally looking at the 3000E series I was initially planning on the 3032E to save a few bucks. While talking things over with the wife, she rather pointedly asked "If you were buying a new car and there was a turbo option offered, what would you buy?" .... needless to say, we got the 3038E... (she knows me too well :D)

Having said that, I'll follow up by opining that having the extra power at the PTO is always a plus.

get the turbo, it gives you more options on attachments, I have a 3038e and its got nuts for its size and weight.

I think you made a good choice and you should be very happy with the 3038e. I am very happy with mine as I am utilizing both the FEL and PTO on mine and it has plenty of power for all my uses so far. Your story is similar to when me and my wife decided on our 3038e. It made me smile! :)

There is nothing wrong with the 3032e either but I think it is worth the extra money to get the extra HP and turbo. The 3038e is nothing more than an enhanced 3032e. I like the looks of them too, they have a little of the old style boxy look to them but with a little modern style mixed in. The 3038e is a bit more capable than the 3032e and will handle a few bigger PTO driven and 3PH implements than the 3032e because of it's turbo & extra HP. A simple and very good entry level little workhorse and well designed for it's intended uses. I love my 3038e but with only 35+ hours it still has a ways to go to proove itself as to how dependable it is. Time will tell.

But so far it has met my needs and then some and I am very pleased with mine and I think you and your wife will be glad you went for the turbo.

I think I may have finally found a replacement for the JD 955? The 3038e seems about right.

I will be tilling with a HD LandPride 64" up a very steep hill. The Kubota B7800 is a terrific machine but I could really use the extra HP.

Any thoughts? I will give my JD dealer a call very soon!

Thanks!

Hey Nick-that sure looks like dangerous animal you have there! I have 4 or 5 chasing me all the time!!
