The 301A is just the industrial version of the 1520. It has the solid front axle for a heavy loader, other than that all is interchangeable. This is why I posted this thread here.
The steering on this old beast has always been a problem. I have rebuilt at least twice in 8 years and 2800 hrs on the steering ( tractor has 5900 hrs ). I have replaced both valves with new as well as complete orings, and all the piston seals also. It has developed a high pressure leak (closed center hyd ) on the lower valve. I changed the hydraulic oil and filter, and replaced all 6 orings in the column and made things much worse. Major chatter and not steering well and leaking at both valves. I have put the old orings back in and put another valve in off the self (used ) and it has eliminated the chatter, currently running to see if still leaking, but do not know as of this writting. Turns fine to the left, but turning to the right is easy enough, but when you stop moving the wheel the steering keeps moving a little more till the valve finally disengages. What is up causing this??????
I would like to find a very good hydraulic shop that can rebuilt these individual valves, but I am afraid they were designed and built as a throw away. I have found a complete unit from a parts yard, and am ready to get it and give that a good try. Any other ideas??
