I recently bought 3000 cu yds of peat (now the wife can have a big flower bed).
If anyone around Ohio needs any let me know.
Pick up or delivery.
Now I have to build a screening set-up, any suggestions?

Lets see, 100 yds per tractor trailer load, 3000/100=30 tractor trailer loads= W O W /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif thats a lot of material!! You going into the peat business???? Think your wife's going to have a flower garden to rival Busch Gardens and Disneyworld combined!

It was a good deal and had to take all of it.
Our semis only haul 40 yds. due to 27' trailers for hauling asphalt.
So will have a few more loads to haul.

Sounds like you do things on a large scale. I travel from Cincinnati to Detroit on I75 often but most likely still a distance to your area. Whats the going price per yard for the TBN group. What the estimated weight per yard. I am still trying to comprehend a 3000 yard pile of peat.

HeY Tim,

We have a new house and my wife has gardens going in everywhere. I would love a load of peat but Geneseo, New York is a little to far.

How do you find the bulk peat? I called everyone that I could think of in our area and no luck.

Tim too

I believe he pretty much cornered the market. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif I just can't imagine that much peat! /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Well a person dug a pond and it had about 6' layer of peat (big pond/or lake).
They piled it up 2 years ago and has been sold a couple times but nobody came back and picked it up.
So I needed some for some customers and he wanted to move ALL of it.
So the wife is real happy but we'll see when I have to start piling it up behind the garden.
The pile now is about 300' long 50' wide and 5-8' high.
There is some chunks of peat in it and a few pieces of wood that hasn't decayed yet.
It is damp and I haven't weighed any yet but it is lighter than
stone and maybe even dirt.
I'm selling $12/ scoop on my hoe which is over 1.5 cubic yard.
Places south of here are getting $15-20/ cubic yard screened.
What I've done around the house is spread out and run the 74" tiller over to mix w/ top soil.

As to your screening "problem," I once drove by, but never closely inspected, the following set-up for screening bark mulch. The folks who were selling the mulch built a wall 5 to 6 ft. high. From the top of the wall a 15 to 20 ft. long screen frame extended out at about a 45 (??) degree angle. The bark was lifted to the top of the screen by the kind of elevator used to get hay up into a hayloft or ear corn into a wire corn crib. I assumed (since I didn't actually see it "running") that the material ran down the screen by gravity and the large pieces fell on one side of the wall (ready for another trip through the chipper/shreader?). The screened stuff would obviously pile up on the side of the wall beneath the screen, ready for sale. Not sure how well this would work for something like peat. Good luck in figuring out something.

Tim, I bought a 15yrd load from Mariaville Peat several years ago. Mariaville is about 30 minutes west of Albany. The going rate then was $12/yrd, (it was shredded and screened). JT
