JD 5403. Disking this morning for a couple hours, then 3 pt hydraulic won't go down. I noticed some chattering a while before it happened. ANything I can do to fix it, or is this a shop job. Local dealer shop closed til Monday. Was hoping to get seed broadcast and covered today before rain. Thanks for any help.

I would check the draft control lever and make sure it was all the way down in off postion. It may have came unhooked.

I thought about that on the way home. Was kinda disgusted with it and just came home for some lunch and check the owner manual. Going back to the property now and will look at it. Thanks.

you may have spun the speed control knob that most tractors have for the 3PH lift its usually between your legs and is normally a round knob. Turn it counter clockwise to speed the 3PH up and down clockwise to slow it down or stop it altogether.

When I got back to the property maybe 2 hrs after I left it, the implement/disk had gone down. I checked the lever linkage and nothing had come loose. Plenty of hyd fluid, filter and hyd oil only about 100 hours. So I cranked her up, waited a few minutes for warm up, pulled the lever up and disk came up, lowered it normal, working normal. Unhooked the disk and hooked up the cultipacker and worked it 2 hours with no problem. The disk weighs 500 pounds more than the cultipacker. Will call the JD service manager Monday and ask.

Probably a spec of dirt in the ROD (rate of drop) valve under the seat. Not terribly uncommon-and I think the 5xxx series had some problems with them anyway IIRC.

I hope that's all it was. Thanks.
