Years ago I ran a hydraulic driven side mount unit, for ODOT. It worked great as far as light cleaning of a ditch. The biggest problem was trash in the ditch, being thrown in someone's field (a lot of glass back in those days). If it's for your personal property with no trash, and it doesn't matter about where the dirt goes, they would great. I'd still want a side mount, so as to stay out of the ditch though. The slope down to the ditch also gives you a pretty decent even plane to work from also. JMO...

**Edit** Just happened to remember, the ditcher was a Tiger brand.

The dirt being thrown is one thing that has me interested in one. I can hit mine with the dozer of grader blade and the dirt pushed up in the banks ends up back down in the ditch eventually

I've never seen one off set like that. Several guys around here have Hurricane brand ditchers made in Vincennes, IN. Those are set directly behind the PTO. The off set one might be better for cleaning out an existing road ditch.

This one would throw it out a good ways. Depending on how high, and steep your banks are, it will disperse the dirt out 15'-20'. If the banks are grass covered, the dirt would sort of melt down into the tall grass, after several rains. Grass would either grow up through it, or new grass would grow on it, and anchor it in place. Not 100%, but a good 60% to 75% if it was spread out fairly thin, and not enough to mat down, and choke out the grass. Not good for banks mowed down tight, like a lawn.

If the first rain was a heavy rain, yeah, you'll get some back in the ditch. A handy attachment in the right place.
