Friend who doesn't fool with computers, has a 5210 with VERY slow or not at all responding 3ph. Neither of us very "tractor savvy", so was wondering if we could get any advice on what might be the problem. Power steering, & fel are both OK, which we think would rule out a plugged hyd. filter; & thats about it for our troubleshooting knowledge. Thanks in advance.

I don't suppose the 5210 has the little knob under the seat that slows down the 3PH does it? If so, it might have the flow reduced using the knob. If not, well, never mind.

The knob under the seat is only for the down movement to the best of my knowledge.

If your down is the problem then YES open up that valve.
If up is your problem -- look other places.

I'll let someone with specific knowledge of your tractor assist you on the raising problem - if that is where the problem is.

Think my knob works the 3 pt both ways.

Is something hanging on this 3 pt? If not and won't go down, it likely only drops by gravity. Put a foot or strong hand on it or stand on one of the arms to lower it.

If it won't raise and something is attached, measure the top link and the draft arms. If the top link is longer than the draft arms and something like a bush hog with a trail wheel is attached to it, having a too long top link will cause the 3 pt to want to drive the trail wheel into the ground. Result is the 3 pt won't lift. It's pure geometry.

Friend says he's aware of, & tried the adjustment knob; 3ph @ one time was working normal. Slow/or nonresponsive up or down mode, with / without implements attached. Someone has suggested sticking valve inside of valve body, just wondering if anyone else has had this problem, & what was done to correct it, (if that is the problem). Thanks again.

I would check for the position sensing rod possibly being unhooked. If you stand at the rear of the tractor, look at the left hand cast arm where it attaches to the tractor. On the bottom side of the arm is a rod that should be connected to it with a nut. I think a 10 mm wrench fits it. I have seen this nut fall off and allow the rod to disconnect. If it is disconnected, Be sure the engine is not running before you reconnect it to prevent unexpected movement of three point hitch. Good Luck!

Do you have rockshaft filter in the system? I have an inline filter that is pressed copper or brass that can plug up and cause the rockshafts to slow down.

I can't help with a solution but I had a similar problem with the 3PH on my 4310. It was an intermittent problem. Sometimes the 3PH would not go down even with a considerable amount of weight on it and the control knob in the full fast position. Sometimes (although more rare) it would not go up even with no load. It would perform normally for awhile then start acting up. I recently had the 50 hour service done and I'm hoping that changing out the fluid may have cured it. It hasn't done it since but I've use it little.
Time will tell. If you find a solution, please pass it along.

Thanks,

Jeff
