Does anyone make/sell a large (maybe 3x4' or 4x5') metal framed carrier for a 3 pt hitch? I could fill in the frame with 3/4 ply or something, sort of like an apple bin. I am thinking it would be handy to move firewood out of my woods when I do not have a FEL on my machine. The intent isn't to store anything like tools/chains. My woods are pretty dense and pulling a trailer around through them isn't the easiest thing to do...

Just wondering as I haven't seen anything like this. There may be an easier solution, but I'm not a welder or metal worker so I'd need someone else to fab up the frame.

Thanks in advance for any thoughts.

I have the unit Dragon's link points to. I got mine at Tractor Supply (no shipping costs). I've been very happy with it - the dump feature (manual) is nice for hauling wood chips and such. I had a friend weld some expanded metal on the sides, but you could just as easily screw in some pieces of plywood.

The only downside (beside being a bit wide at 6') is that it really isn't strong enough to haul a full load of green firewood. I had mine modified to be stronger where the 3PH pins are mounted. basically we boxed in the channel the pins were mounted in, welded some tubing inside the boxed channel as a bushing, and remounted the category 1 pins. Sorry, no pictures right now - it's under snow.

I also had some adjustable tubing "legs" installed on the four corners. This makes it easier to to remove (no scrounging for concrete blocks to set it on) and install. I also use it as a woodbox near my fire pit. Having the legs on it puts the wood at a more comfortable height to grab.

You don't say what tractor you are putting it on but for smaller BX sized tractor, BXpanded has this one Carryall

Hello Snoho3,

Take a look at walco equipment's utility dump box. I have the model 495 which is an 18" deep x 48" x 48" box. They also sell a model 395 which is 10" deep x 36" x 36" box which I think would be better suited for your size tractor. I have a JD 2320 and the model 495 fits my tractor perfect. When I use it I either have the FEL attached or suitcase weights. My local kubota dealer sells these utility dumps.

P.S. I have a picture but as you can tell from the number of my post I'm new at this. What does it mean after you select Insert Image "Please enter the URL of your image"? If I have the picture on my desktop how do I attach it?

Snoho3,

After re-reading your post I realized that you have a Kubota B7800. For some reason I read the thread quick and thought you had a Kubota BX. Anyways, the larger Model 495 utility dump would be better for your size tractor.

Kind Regards,

I have both a carry-all and a set of 3 point forks. If I had bought the 3 point forks first, I would have never bought the carry-all. You can scab together just about anything with a pallet as the foundation. Like for example, I have 4 firewood frames. I load them up, just like you would a carry-all -- except I don't unload them until they go in the fire. I am going to build a spot sprayer and will fashion it on a free used pallet instead of a 3 point frame that I would have to make or buy. I'm also going to build a general purpose tool box for it, even though I have the carry-all -- simply because when you're through with it, you can drop and keep going without leaving the tractor seat.

My 3 point will also lift almost twice as much as my FEL. That's a nice feature of a set of 3 point forks.

A sincere thanks for all your replies. I decided to go with the forks as it should be easy to knock together a crate for hauling firewood or gravel. (With a removeable rear panel, I could just back it up to my gravel pile and 'scoop' with the three pt lift... hmmm...). Anyway, the dump/loader looks great, but it is too spendy for me.

Thanks again everyone.

The term "carry all" is the name of a number of differing devices. That thing BXpanded owns has that name; some of the old pan scraper earth movers (not the paddle-wheelers, but those that cut with one straight blade and are pulled by either a rubber tire or a tracked tractor) were (some smaller ones still are) referred to as carry-alls. The thing most commonly referred to as a carry-all, however, looks like a pair of fork lift forks, but attaches to the 3ph. Click below to see what the majority of people refer to as a carry-all. I would recommend this. You could build a box with a pallat as a base and just back underneath it. You could get a bunch of pallats at a recyclery, stack your firewood on one at a time and wrap the load in shrink-wrap. You can then move it wherever you want to (several times) and unwrap them 1 load at a time as you burn the firewood.
