I would like to purchase a blade and post hole digger. Blade for snow removal and moving dirt and rock, would like 6'. Any suggestions, I've herd the ones at Tractor Supply are good. Would also like a used post hole digger 8" any ideas on what these will run. Everyone I know doesn't want to let go (sell) theirs.

I would look on ebay for any used stuff. I have never seen an 8" auger offered though. They all seem to come in 6", 9" 12". Just make sure that the PHD you get fits your tractor.

I fat fingered when typing it should be 9". The blade I think I'll get at my local TSC, but the post hole digger is way too expensive new. I'll hopefully get one at the auction in Jan, but I'm not spending $700-$1000 on something that will get used once in a great great while.

TSC carries several sevice grades of KK 3 pt blades. Do yourself a favor and get one of the heavier ones. I have a 7' "professional" grade on order. It's a fairly substantial piece (340 lbs) for about $500 and should work for me - I don't plan on abusing it too badly.

I just picked a standard Heavy duty one at TSC. Weighs 700#. They had it marked wrong...Then even knocked 25 dollars off because of the paint being scratched.. I thought it was a good deal.

It was 639 then I got 25 dollars off. I called another TSC before i bought it and they quoted $1049 for the HD Blade. I think I got a good deal. I like how it indexes on the tilt etc...

John,

Great deal. I don't think I could buy the steel to build one for that price!

Get on TSCs mailing list, they send out discount offers several times a year. I just took advantage of one (25% off or $100 max) to get that standard PHD for $350, and a different (15%) coupon to get a pair of augers (6" and 9") for $208. With my ag exemption, that was PHD and 2 augers out the door for $558

I have a 6' and a 7' rear blade for my 28 Hp tractor. I see that is what you have. Do not get a 5' because if you angle it you will not cover your track. 6' minimum.

I bought a cheap 6' and have bent it all up. Spend the money now. I only use my 7' for gravel and snow. The 6' is perfect for dirt work.

I also have a PHD. I only have a 9" auger but will be getting a 12". Setting a 6x6 in a 9" hole takes some accuracy. I would rather backfill a hole than dig some extra out. Concrete is still pretty cheap so I just would like to go the overkill route rather than dig and clean out augered holes.

I have a 6' KK I found for sale along the road. It is a bit large for my tractor but does very well when the snow's falling. Used stuff seldom comes up for sale around here so I couldn't be that picky. You should probably look 6-7' length and get the heavier made model. I will last forever + another day or two.

Thats the reason I bought it. I had another tractor with the regular KK blade and it held up for what I used it. This blade here is a behumouth. The amount of steel in it was worth the price. I'm sure I won't hurt it with my tractor...

Thanks everyone for the replies and suggestions. Several years ago I had an old WD45 and had a 6' blade for it, one winter moving snow I had hit a stump that was cut to about 2"-3" above the ground and the darn blade bent. It still worked but I was not happy about it bending. This is the first 3 pt tractor I've owned, being a farm hand growing up and through college, I've used 3 pt a lot on the farm but until hear latley I have never owned one. LOTS of attachments compaired to the AC (Allis Chalmers) 2 Pt systems. As several have stated I want to purchase one that is heavy enough to last several years, even longer than the tractor:) We have a local farm supply called FARM KING, kind of like a local TSC. While speaking to some of the guys I know there, they even said not to purchase one of thiers and to go to TSC and get an American made one that was heavy and I'd never regret it. The ones FARM KING have are all china steel manufactured and none of the guys at the store like them because they are light and cheep. The honesty of the guys at the store is why I do a lot of shopping at the with them. We have a local farm auction comming up in Jan and I may be able to get the blade and PHD at a good price, but if not I at least now know the ones at TSC are good and most folks seem happy with them. Thanks everyone.

I was going to buy a PHD for my tractor and told my neighbor. He asked if I would consider splitting the cost with him and sharing the digger. He lives about 1/2 mile down the road from me and we swap it back and forth as needed. No more than it is needed, I'd almost think three people could share it, but that adds a lot complexity and chances for finger-pointing if something gets broken. We have both drilled lots of holes with our PHD and it has worked out great for over 8 years. If you can find a PHD partner and establish "rules for use," it will sure benefit your wallet.:)

Hey Capi,
Don't expect the rear blade to do much in the way of grading soil. A box blade is much better for that. I have had both. Love the Woods Box blade.

Rankin PHD 300 is excellent. I have the 9" auger, and the hole winds up being 10-11" diameter. It gives extra room to position the post properly. Also, once holes are filled with concrete it creates an exceptionally strong fence. In windstorms, we have had 4x6 posts snap off at the ground before they lean over!

Best regards, Good Luck and be Safe
