HI all , Some of the property I'm building out is a little steep ,not to bad but concerning and I want to build a 55 gallon weight barrel with pvc tubes for tool storage and chains today for the 3ph and i have a 855 with mfwd/fel and want to know how much weight should it have to be safer going down hill grading driveway and added traction for skidding logs ? I have 120 lbs on front weight bar and will be getting more as I find them ???

I also have an 855 (1987)

According to the info on tractordata.com an 855 will only lift about 800# on the 3pt.

That seems to be about right. I can't lift more than 20 landscape blocks at 22# each with my 3pt carry all frame and platform.

You might want to do the math for weights of different ballast materials and some testing before making anything that might not work for you.

Quite frankly, I filled my 33" turfs with antifreeze and ww fluid. That seems to be more than enough weight to do all the things I have needed to do with my FEL.

Good luck

I think it's possible to get a 30 gallon drum, which might be a more appropriate size for this tractor.

You can take a 55 gallon drum and cut it about 1/3rd down from the top. That would be about 800# of concrete it thats what you fill it with. Add some PVC tubes for tools and that lessens it even more. But about 600# should be good.

Its good advice to start with loading the tires first, BUT, if you have a FEL, it is also good to have weight BEHIND the tractor to serve as counter weight.

use a 55 gallon barrel but only fill it half full of concrete put at least 4. 2 inch PVC tubes in for tools then you'll have the rest of the top of the barrel for storage. Cut along slot in it for the top link to slide thru will have plenty room for your chain saw your chains anf the other things you might want to
