Kubota L2501
My 2501 is set to be delivered next week. Ordered pretty much all the attachments I think I'll need, except a Spreader.

Won't need it until fall but starting research now. Will be mostly for fertilizing, seeding and overseeding 5 acres of lawn and about 3.5 of pasture.

Any thoughts on what I should be looking for?

Depends on the quality of the spreader and your wallet whether your going to use it every year and if you have to spread salt and sand for the winter.

The 3 point hitch VICON pendulum spreaders are excellent machines that will outlast your tractor.

I do not know who makes the JD Frontier brand pendulum spreaders.

Save your self a lot of aggravation and buy a spreader with a fiberglass or poly hopper.

Just keep in mind that spinner spreaders are going to rust on you and have problems regulating the flow of material especially after they start rusting up where the pendulum spreaders have a better design to control the flow of materials.

No matter what spreader you buy you need to wash it out with hot water and dawn dish soap and rinse it out several times after that with hot water.

if you can use slick plate paint on all the cleaned moving parts on a spinner spreader great but a pendulum spreader will be much easier to own and operate and will be trouble free below the hopper.

I will check it the ones you mention. A poly hopper is something I want.

Also would like it to work with my quick hitch.

I bought a Land Pride model last year-the mid sized one. Used for 500 lbs of fertilizer and a few hundred pounds of winter rye. Not much of a trial, but it seemed to work well. It has the poly hopper.

Will

Vicon is now owned by Kubota. Buy the 403 spreader that's around $2000 and get a hopper extension and some front end weights for your tractor. Let the dealer--not you-- cut the PTO shaft for the spreader on your tractor and MAKE SURE IT'S THE RIGHT LENGTH or you will do lots of damage to that spreader if it bottoms out. You will bend the spreader frame if the pto shaft is too long.

Best spreader on the market. I have a Vicon and then I have the Kubota branded Vicon and they are the best.

Also order the "key" accessory for $35 that allows you to change the spreading with from 40 to 30 feet and keep that bearing greased or it will freeze up. Also order the "small seed kit" for $50 that allows you to spread grass seeds and small grains Spreading charts are on line..

I have a L4740,I purchased a Herd spreader works great. Tractor’s PTO clutch’s seized together after two years. I wasn’t running PTO at WOT and that was causing clutch’s to slip creating heat then fused together. That was an expensive lesion. My tractor is an HST

I'm not familiar with that. So you have to run the PTO only, or mostly at 540?

I bought a Fressori P500 steel hopper spreader for use behind my old B7100 HST when I planted my 5 acre lawn.

Fressori Single Disc Spreader by Cavan Agri and Industrial Machinery

I've used it with all my tractors, including my current L6060 HST, for spreading seed, fertilizer and during the winter, coal ash. Its worked well now for over 30 years. There is no corrosion on it since I wash it well after each use. There was no poly version offered back when I bought it or I likely would have gone that route.

I replaced the 540 RPM driveshaft with a hydraulic motor to better control the dispersion rate relative to tractor speed.
