I been thinking about picking up a Taylor-Way 766 backhoe that is a 3 point hitch mount. I've read posts saying that it will work just fine and other ones saying that it will abuse and possibly break my machine. One of the dealers that I contacted didn't have very good things to say about my 3720's gear case (he sells Kioti's and and another type of chinese brand)-go figure. The hoe will only be used for digging around the farm on an occational basis. For the amount of money that Deere wants for one their hoes with the sub-frame I think I would be better off and save a few more grand a buy a used mini excavator. Thanks for the replies ahead of time.

You couldn't give me a backhoe without a subframe...Just my opinion-might be worth what you paid for it:D

I went with the bh for the 2305 w/subframe because I was told you could break the case on your transmission. Yes you need to put your lift arms back on but it doesn't take take long.

Myself and a couple others have the Taylor Way 766 backhoe, but we made subframes. Do a search on Taylor way, and check out the threads. It's a solid hoe, but for me it needed a subframe..no big deal, but you'll need some fab skills.

I'd spend the extra money to buy the used mini before I ever put a 3pt hoe on my tractor. Is the 3pt hoe worth what it might cost to repair your 3720? I doubt it. It would be ashame to buy the 3pt hoe to do a LITTLE work and end up with a BIG repair bill.

Sincerely, Dirt

One simple question.

If the Taylor hoe breaks your JD crankcase/tranny housing and the bill is $3800 to fix it, will Taylor pay the bill promptly without bitching? If you are positive they will put that in writing, then go for it. Otherwise you are a gambler. You are betting several thousand dollars that it will not.

I can assure you that JD will not cover it.

I think Tim hit the nail on the head here. if you have some fab skills, some 3pt hoes are real bargains.
I have a LITW 3pt hoe that I adapted to a factory subframe. It worked real well as a 3pt but, there is quite a difference in feel when subframe mounted. Even if you don't have the ability to fab up a subframe, maybe you know someone who does. bartering might be an option.

My neighbor has a landscape business and has all kinds of heavy-duty stuff, BUT still uses his kubota B7100 HST (12 yrs old) regularly with a too-big woods 650 3-pt backhoe with its own pump. He has, as he says "moved heaven and earth" with that loader and dug more trenches and removed stumps (i have witnessed 5 large ones right here) than most 'regular' tractor folks (like me) will do in a lifetime. All he broke was the plate for the middle link - now its rewelded and reinforced. YMMV, I'd love to put that 650 on my 770, 3-point style
