3 Point Hitch lever power loss

Operator of tractors need to know that the lever for the rear 3 point hitch should NEVER be left in the highest position as it robs power from the front end loader and hydrostatic drive power transmissions. It needs to be left a few inches back from the furthest up position where it will still hold your rear implement up where you want it.

I think that there was a Tractorbynet post on this issue a year or two (or three?) ago. Note that I believe that WHEN this is a problem, it is only a problem for tractors with POSITION CONTROL on the 3-point lift (because this lift system can keep trying to apply up pressure to reach a higher position).

Without searching for the post, I'll try and repeat what I remembered from it:

When correctly adjusted, the 3-point lift mechanism shouldn't rob hydraulic power when in the full UP position. However, some lift mechanisms are not adjusted properly.

To determine whether your lift mechanism is adjusted properly, raise the 3-point lift arm to its highest position and let the engine stabilize. Then move the lift arm slightly forward...

(1) if the engine rpm increases, then the lift mechanism is out of adjustment and will keep trying to raise the 3-point arms above the highest position.

(2) if the engine RPM does not change, then there is no power being robbed at the full UP position.

On the BX2200 - the lift control should automatically return to the center position after you lift the implement. If you continue to hold it in the up position, it certainly does keep the lift pump running, and probably rob some power.

I'm pretty sure that what you say is true of any 3-point lift mechanism that does not have position control. In particular, the BX series, the B7500 and B7800 are the current Kubotas without position control. The B2410, B2710, and B2910 have position control.

If the upper position sensor for the 3-point lift mechanism with position control is out of adjustment, then it will keep trying to raise the 3-point hitch just like you manually holding the lift control lever in the raise position on your BX2200, thus robbing engine power.

I'll try to find that old post. It probably did a better job of explaining the potential problem than I did.

It is my belief that this POTENTIAL problem does not affect your BX nor any other tractor that does not have position control. As long as your lift lever is in the neutral position (ie, not in the RAISE position) then you are not using any engine power.
