Looking for any info on Hanson equipment snowblower, model 101489. 7' PTO driven. Just picked one up for $300. Are they a good blower? Any known problems, or upgrades. Where can I find out when it was built.
IF its the same Hanson, The owner died and the company folded up.
They built and sold a big herd of underpowered pick up truck snow
blowers also.
NOW;
The flange bearings, sprockets, roller chain, shear pins, gear box, PTO Shaft-if it has one are all off the
shelf item parts obtainable locally.
The cross auger is powered with the roller chain drive. spray some fluid film on the chain. If the chain breaks you need to take it to a chain reseller and see about getting a length of chain- you may end up buying a 10 foot box of chain- If you can get roller chain with a continuous master link construction all the better as you will not need chain splicing and breaking tools.
SO you have to decide of you want to keep it and use it now.
As always the problem with two stage blowers is the open auger and you have to
drive slowly in reverse to avoid having a mound of snow in front of the snow caster
as the open auger will also push the snow forward as the open auger flights do not
break up the snow pile and they do not have teeth cut into the flights to break up
the snow pack.
Spray the chute and spout, impeller and impeller housing
with fluid film to aid in snow removal.
Or you can use plenty of low cost generic cooking spray or WD-40
I cannot tell you anything about the weld quality or steel thickness, etc.
The other issue is whether you can sleep at night because
the unit is a used snow caster for your snow removal needs.
