OK, after successfully killing both the craftsman pro and mtd, I'm looking for a mowing solution for around the house and two corrals which is about 3-4 acres. they're bahia grass which grows well even in low water, but needs cutting about every 5 days in the summer. Considering....

GR2010 - 48" maybe a little slow and narrow? found a good deal. the diesel I can get a 54" but is like $2K more.

Z series - pretty fast and wider if you step up to the 227, but over $2K more though can finance 2 yrs longer so pymt is lower than 2010 but for two more years-LOL; but singular in purpose, just mows.

BX1860 - about $4k more can do more things, speed in the middle, can finance longer so pymt would be about the same monthly as the 2010; can add other items later - not sure on handling on a lawn around the house and fences though.

was told F series really too much for this application....

Thoughts? Advice? Hints?

The BX will do many other tasks if you have a need for it. I've got a bx2660; about 4 acres to cut, horse paddocks to maintain and a 2600 foot gravel drive so I use the heck out of the bx.

I have owned a BX for the last eight years after mowing with dedicated lawn mowers though no ZTR and my wife and I love the versatility of a SCUT. John Deere has a couple of new units coming out and of course they have the X Series. CC, MF and others make good SCUTS worth looking into.

My preference is the BX, but all are good.

The question is: do you have other tasks or not. If no, the ZTR is the best choice. If yes, the BX is the best choice. I suggest that you make a list of everything else you need a machine to do and post it here. We can then give much better informed opinions.

I have 3 acres to mow between my places and my moms. She has a Craftman 42" mower and I have a MTD 42" mower. Use to take me 3hrs to mow the 3 acres. Bought a Massey GC2400 with a 60" mower last fall and I can do the mowing in half the time. I think it even cuts better then the old lawn mowers:thumbsup:

personally i think the tractors/lawn mowers are to small for your needs.you need to step up to a l3200 with a 5ft shredder.

for 3+ ac to mow.. I'd for sure go to a tractor and not a lawn mower...

He just took delivery of an L3700 & a Rotary mower from Barlows.

My thought would be get a RFM and use that behind the L3700 unless you have too many obstacles.

I've had an L, two B's and several BX's. Currently have a BX25 for tractor work and two F's (two locations) for mowing. The F is the best for mowing with no other real competition. The ZTR's are a far behind competitor but a lot cheaper. If just mowing then the F and if the price hurts, then a ZTR. If more than mowing then a BX with FEL will be the best for the money for the size of your property.
