Posted this in the hydraulics forum, but thought i would ask here too.

I need some advice/knowledge on hydraulics systems. I have been looking to add a front end loader to my little tractor (Branson 2910). I was quoted almost $4K (ouch) by the local bush hog dealer for one that would fit my tractor.

There is a fellow in the next town over that has the next larger model number for sale for $2.5K, and I would like to jump on it, IF it can be adapted to by tractor. I know I'll need the mounting brackets and all, but my real question is about the pump system. My tractor is rated at 8.25 gallons per minute @ 2000 psi. According to the bush hog loader manual the model that the guy has for sale is rated for 9 gallons per minute at 2450 psi. Will the larger loader work with my system, just with reduced capacity/cycle times? If so, I can live with that. Is there an auxiliary booster pump that can be plumbed into the system to meet bush hog specs? For what it is worth the bush hog loader number is 2346 QT. The guy at the local tractor yard quoted me a 2045.

Final question, what is the difference between mid-mount and front-push loader?

Thanks,

-matt

You'd probably get more and better repsonses to this question by posting in the Hydraulics board.

The front push style have a smaller mid mount post for the arms to pivot on and the loader has an additional frame like part hooks to a bracket in the front of the tractor just under the grill. See First 2 pics.

The mid mount loaders have a frame that puts all the load bearing weight near the middle of the tractor. See last 2 pics

I bought a BL-10 FEL for my Branson 3510 from local dealer for $3500. cash and carry. I installed it myself. Before I would mess around with generic FEL's I would reccomend going with the Branson. It comes with everything you need to install it. It is engineered to work with the Branson. Has all hydraulic connections and controls. Is quick release from the tractor, pull 2 pins, disconnect 4 hoses and back away. It even has stiff-legs so it will stand by itself, ready to put back on.
As for making your own mounting brackets, I have been welding for 44 years, repaired semi's for 30 years, have a fabrication shop with Plasma cutter and 50ton Ironworker plus other quality equipment. I couldn't build as good mounting brackets as these.
Sometimes you just need to pay to play! I will say that the FEL was worth every penny! I use it for everything.
