Tractor
Montana 2844R Hst
well im lookin at a 28844 hst with a loader and a 72" MMM. They want 16500 cash for it and its a demo with 18 hrs on it. Now another place is selling the same tractor with no hours on it but no MMM and they want 15500. Now both tractors are 09 with warranty on them. Now im just wondering if this is a good price for this tractor and if anyone has any problems with them. I used to own a yanmar and im lookin to upgrade and im leaning towards Montana for price mainly. Any input on the Montanas would be helpful. O and BTW there is only 1 dealer in our province and 1 in the next, so it makes me leary weather i should buy one or not.

how far are the dealers, also are there any other brand dealers close. i am a montana owner 2840 ls built unit with 100 hrs no problems but stupid stuff, loader handle broke below the jam nut, dealer mailed me another. if it's a ls unit i feel real comfortable with telling you to buy it. i am not that familiar with some of the other tractor manufacturers they used. im thinking the 2844 is a hydro with a deadong(kioti) engine in it.

I think this is a LS model with a Mitsubishi engine. That being said I can't see any dealer getting any more of these tractors due to LS and Montana split up so they are both selling old stock. Whether they get new stock in is up to the dealers again how they view the split up. I personally would be OK with them being Montana or LS dealers but even if they are neither I can still buy generic parts locally and anything specific can be bought online.

I own a 3040, which is the next step up in power but a couple models older and shuttle shift, in 3 years it has been serviced only. The only thing I took it back to the dealer for was one of the bolts holding the loader frame on was stripped, I was expecting a heli coil which I didn't feel like doing. As it turns out they had used the wrong bolt from the install, only the tip of the bolt was stripped, they just put in a longer bolt that should have been used and it has been tight ever since.

I think the tractor with the mm is gone (so the price can't be bad), I just bought a Bad Boy Z turn from the dealer in Stoon, they delivered it yesterday and my neighbour has a new Montana sitting on his driveway when I came home last night so I'm guessing they delivered both at the same time, I know he was looking at it (might be demo).

As for buying big name brands for security, I have relatives that had the other green dealership for years, they had to sell out because they couldn't get new product the building is now a satellite of a green dealer many miles away. I have friends that work in different large dealerships around the province and unless you are buying a couple 2-3 hundred thousand dollar machines they can't do anything for you. (all their smoking deals don't come close to the Montana deal) All the warranty is decided in some other office and the local people can't do much. My personal feeling is security in the business is nonexistent so why pay $ to think you have it?

Well the closest dealer is 3 hours. Closest dealer is Bobcat,Kubota,New Holland,Case/IH. JD, etc. I called on the unit and it was sold off in only 3 days. But another dealer has a 2844R left. Its not like its gonna be used alot, just for mowin, tilling and plowing snow in winter. I went to Kubota the other day and they quoted me 29,900 for a L3240 with a tiller. So thats why im kinda looking at these different brands. I looked at mahindra's but they are worth the same money as kubota and JD. So im not sure what to buy. I would buy used but im scared of buying some one elses crap in a sence.

just checked the montana site and you're right it is a mitsubishi engine, so it probably is a ls built tractor. i would not hesitate to by a off brand model and i think you'll find that the ls's are one of the better brands to buy. they have made lots of tractors for different brands. and this s4l engine is used around the world not just for tractors but boats, gensets and so on. the only thing i wish i had done different is haveing ags instead of r4's i run chains in the winter to compensate.

Ok thanks. The other dealer got back to me this morning and he said 15500 for the 2844r or 19500 for one with a back hoe and turf tires(dont really want turf tires though). I think were gonna do some calling around see if its cheaper to finance with them or the bank. I think im gopnna take the plung. This dealer is a province over, but they are opening a dealer within 2 hours of me this next year so i think it will be a good choice.

You should be able to get a better price on the tractor if you use your own financing. You need to compare interest rates vs. dollar savings. The R series is a great machine, maybe the dealer can swap the tires and rims over onto the unit with the backhoe. If you think you will get a backhoe in the near future, get it now. Now the pricing is great, and you can the right backhoe made for that unit, in the right color. Nice to have the weight back there to offset the loader. good luck

Well after some calling around today, we figured it out. We think were gonna say no to the back hoe, but yes to the 2844R. The financing will be done through the dealer. Cant really say no. He called me back today and told me 15,250 out the door with tax for the one with no back how and R4's. So the tractor is 14500 with out tax. Now financing was gonna be 4.9% with 0 down, but with 20% down, we can get 2.9% for 60 months. We are gonna be putting around 30% down on the tractor. I would get the back how for it, but i dont think i really need it. My neighbour owns a back hoe and he will lend it to me no problem. Heck his even comes with an operator and it usually only costs me some beer :) . But im gonna call him tommorow and get this deal roling. Might have time later this week to go pick it up. Thanks for the advice.

sounds great, $14,500 is a great deal for all that machine, that sounds more like the price for a good used unit. 2.9% is just about a free loan, plus it is for a tractor that will save you money and maybe make you money, now thats what I call a good day!

Well i got the tractor today. I must say, i really like it alot. Now i already have an issue. Well the throttle cable will not stay up. It will only idle. I need a picture of the injection pump so i can see what i need to rig up to fix this. Its kind of a pita to run controls and throttle at the same time. If some one has a picture of even a bigger tractor, at least i could figure out how to run it properly. for the 2 hours of seat time i did get today on it, i must say, it sure is a nice little unit for what i paid for it.

Well i got about 66 hours on it now, so far so good. There is a couple things about it that i like and dis like. But all is good so far. So im getting ready to do the first oil change on everything but i need all of the part numbers for the filters and what kind of oil everyone uses. Now im looking for the hydralic filters, fuel, oil, etc for either wix or baldwin. Now im gonna use 10w30 Diesel Shell Rotella T for the motor and im also not sure on which oil to use for the hydro and hydrralics. Any input would be awsome. Ill get some pics up later.

Glad to hear you like the tractor. Still think what you paid has to make it a good deal. What I did with the filters on mine was just get the # off the filters that were on the tractor, Wix has a website that crosses over from just about anything. If that is not possible I would call the dealer.

As for oil I use 15/40 mainly because that's what I have on the shelf for my other trucks. If my tractor sat outside in the winter I'm sure it would need something lighter. I would think that tans/hydraulic fluid for the tranny, back diff, hydraulics probably 1 tank for them all. Mine has gear oil in the front diff but with a Hydro it might also be lubricated from the same system. I would call the dealer and get his suggestions and then talk to your fuel/oil distributor and get his opinion for local conditions. If it is going to be outside in the winter you might have to go with different oils in the summer and winter, or find a compromise of some kind. One time with mine I left it outside in the fall and before I got around to putting it in the heated shop it got to -30. I plugged it in and it started OK but it took a couple minutes for the hydraulics to raise the loader enough to move the tractor, everything I could do to turn the steering wheel and she made some god offal noises driving ahead 20 ft and backing 20 ft back into the shop. Something you don't want to do every time. After it warmed up everything was fine. Now in the winter it stays inside, goes outside for a couple hrs pushing snow and then back inside, and I run heavy oil all year round. I would guess your Hydro would be more prone to cold weather problems but nothing that can't be overcome.

On another note, how does your tractor handle the 6 mower? I have a 5 ft rough cut that I have too much power for in light grass, I've been toying with the Idea of a 6 or 7 ft finishing but I just don't know how much extra it would be.

Hey thanks for the suggestions. Well i might run 15w40 as i get that for my truck all of the time anyway, i was told to run 10-30 diesel from the dealer i bought it from. But i always think that its to light of oil for a diesel. Im pretty sure the hydro/3 pth/ loader/rear end/ ec is all on one. My front diff is seperate though. I know my old yanmar i ran 75/90 in the front diff and hydralic oil in the back. It will be parked in a insulated shop this winter, its not heated yeat but if i can afford to im gonna install either a Grain stove or a used oil furnace. As for the mower, it handles the mower with ease, im sure i could get away with a 7' no prob. Im looking for a 5-6' rough cut mower as i have some unwated shooters poping up on the north side of my property and i dont like useing the finishing mower on them as its kinda hard on blades. I got my mower for a good price and thats kinda why i went with it. I had a 5' before this and it barly covered its tracks so i replaced it with the bigger one. Im also looking at a 5' rototiller and a little disk(5.5' or so) as im sure it can hadle them. Like i said, so far im very pleased with the tractor. For the price we paid, i couldnt of touched a deere or a kubota. Thanks for the help again.
