2800/3400 brakes

after running thru some high grass and broken branches today i have no brakes.everything under looks ok but pedal just goes to the floor with no resistance.2 springs are attached they were fine before as usual.what am i missing here.

Follow the linkage back toward the rear end from under the platform and hopefully, you will find that some brush has pulled the cotter pins out and the linkage is disconnected from the actuating arm for the brakes. Hope this helps.

I imagine you already checked all your fluid levels?

When you say you have no brakes, is it both or only one side. If it is only the left side, it appears that there is a pin that connects the pedal to the shaft and linkage. Maybe worth a look to see if the pin is still there.

Can you move the actuator lever on the outside of the rear end and engage the brakes? Is the actuating lever slipping on the shaft running into the rear end?

ok, i have found that prior to losing brakes i had checked all fluids and all was ok, i rechecked today and could not see any in window by clutch pedal.i added two gallons and still nothing in window.will get a 5 gallon bucket and add tommorow and try again.i can see no apparent leaks but their must be one somewhere because the hydraulic fluid went somewhere.my owners manual doesn't list any brake fluid so im assuming brakes and lift all run off hydraulic fluid system.anyone else maybe ran over something and caused a fluid loss?what is the most common place for leak to occur?cannt see any apparent leaks under the tractor.hate to have to load up and haul all the way to dealer if its something i can do.

I would make sure that you are seeing air in the window. the fluid in mine is a fairly clear and if you cant see a bubble in the top it looks like the window is empty. When I first got mine (L3400-gear), I looked at the window and thought it was empty, but was full with no air visible.

There is a piston with "o" rings that compresses the brake discs together and that could have gotten out of place. Were you running with the brakes on by any chance? When you check the fluid level, you must have all the hydraulics relaxed to get a correct reading. Hope we are giving you some help.

The brakes on the L2800/3400 are wet but not hydraulic activated. See the attachement of the brake system from the service manual.

If you brake pedal goes to the floor I would not think low hydraulic fluid level would cause that. I've never had one apart so I'm not sure but it does not appear that way.

My 3400 came with the fluid so full that the bubble in the sight glass was not there. I added fluid and no change in the window. I then drained it and saw the line in the window. If the glass looks just a bit yellow that is fluid. Pure white is no fluid.

Check your brake linkage for slippage.
