TYM 273
Rototilling this evening when there was a bang or snap. With hearing protection on I thought it was something in the tiller and hit the switch no change and then I realized the tractor had stopped.
Now it has a grinding noise and no PTO or motivation. To dark to get a good look at it but I'm wondering if it could be driveshaft.
Any Ideas.

Thanks in advance

It's the driveshaft. Shaft is turning but appears to be stripped on the transaxle end. hope it didn't hurt the stub shaft on the transaxle to bad. Just left the dealer, 3 week out of 5 year warranty. Told them of the driveshaft problems on this forum and the are calling to try and get it warrantied.

On the way to haul it out of the field.

I hope they cover it for you; problems with the driveshaft (don't ask how I know!) are pretty well documented. Good luck!

The splines on the input shaft seem to be fine. I can get the shaft to slide back on them. It acts like it is stuck compressed as when I slide it on the input shaft in slides part way off the other end. Is this the snap ring problem that has been discussed on this site. Is there a way to get the shaft to extend and replace the snap ring while the shaft is still on the tractor?

Well I got a good look underneath. Not Good. Snap rings were in place. Both the input shaft and the end of the driveshaft are shot. Almost no spines left. I hope warranty covers it or I'll be doing it myself and then looking for something else maybe orange or green.

Good luck!!! There have been many questions regarding TYM and their customer service, let's hope they step up and help you out. Keep us informed, it would be nice to read a positive review of TYM.

Well the dealer told me today that the area manager in charge of warranty repairs has signed off and sent it up the food chain. Had to confirm that there was no other obvious damage other than drive and input shaft.
To the people that have had the repair done under warranty what kind of warranty do you get on the new parts? another 5yrs? That would probably be to good to be true.

Can anyone confirm that once you get the pump unit off you can remove the snap ring off the back and then get the shaft out the front with out totally disassembling the pump.

I was told repair parts have no warranty unless there is a problem resulting in a revised part.

As it stands right now I'm pay the $200 deductible that is in the warranty and labor. TYM is picking up parts cost which are supposed to be enroute. I wish I had more time I would take the parts and do it myself. Not real happy with the outcome. Hope the mechanic works fast.

$200 bucks isn't that bad considering it will probably be around $2000. A new driveshaft alone is about $200, so if the rest is covered that is a good thing. As mentioned in other post the original driveshaft and the next version where trouble. The last one (that I know of and is what went on my 273) so far has been rock solid and I hear from my dealer that they have had no failures with it.
Good luck.
