About a year ago I noticed a small coating of oil on the left side right behind the exhaust on the loader mounting plate. It doesn't drip, there's no oil under the engine and I've never had to add oil to it, I assumed it was coming out of exhaust pipe and blowing back onto the plate as it was being driven because the exhaust is right in front of the plate. After reading through the forums on here more, I was going to put some locite on all of the loader bolts last night as preventative maintenance. When I pulled the first bolt out on the left side, it had motor oil on the threads. Could this be caused by a cracked block? I have 184 hours on the tractor, have completed all scheduled maintenance and have been checking these bolts regularly. I am one month out of warranty and will be into the second month by the time I can get it to the dealer because I'm leaving for vacation tonight after work. Do these bolts go into the engine where oil is kept?

Ok follow up question, does anyone have any form of deposit near their exhaust pipe on their 15/16 series?

Just an update almost a year later. I talked to MUSA today and will be bringing the tractor in to my dealer sometime soon. Here's the photos if anyone has any theories of what this could be. I'm assuming a cracked block and am kicking myself for not bringing it right in as soon as I saw the first sign of oil. I really thought it was just blowby of oil from the exhaust.

If you have never had to add oil to it, or had oil in the coolant, I would not think it would be cracked. Does it run alright?

In an earlier life, I worked for a time in an engine factory. What you may have is a hole that is drilled/taped too deep into the motor casting. Or a casting that was a little thin where the hole was supposed to be drilled. It could be cracked, like you think. But I would try cleaning up the hole/bolt as well as possible and reinstalling it with a good silicone sealant or Permatex. Might keep it from ever leaking....and you will sleep like a baby for many moons....

Never had a problem with how it runs and have never had to add oil to it. The oil started showing up on the outside of the loader plate around the time I started using Opti-Lube, so I assumed some of the additive was coming out of the exhaust as I was driving it and splattering on the outside of the plate behind the exhaust pipe, but now I've noticed the oil level is down 1/2 in between the hash marks on the dipstick and it seems like there's more oil coming out somewhere. I only have 220 hours on the tractor. I contacted MUSA to explain I've had this problem for awhile (before warranty went out) and posted about it here to see if they would bend on the warranty if in fact my block is cracked. It's not looking good so I may just try the locite on the bolts to see if that does anything before I walk into a big repair bill. I'll clean all of the oil off, put locite on the bolts and see if I notice any more oil coming out, thanks for the suggestion. I was very hesitant to go to my dealer also due to my only experience with him that I posted here:

I was a little upset about that experience and generally don't get that mad about anything. Regarding that visit, I still can't use my brakes and apparently they aren't covered under warranty.

There are several types of locktite, make sure you get the stuff for your size of bolt. Some of the stuff is just for little bolts. If it was me, I'd do that one bolt with permatex....that would be what the factory would have done if they had found a bolt hole that the tap cut thru a little bit of a hole. Granted, Permetex won't hold maybe as good as Locktite....but it sure seals better. Good stuff.....:) Good Luck...Jerry
