Hello just wanting some thoughts and opinions, after much reading on this sight i made a choice of the 2615 gear model for working around my place,
but i really looked at the jd 790 and could have got a decent price ,i just thought the 2615 looked like a better unit .the only thing iam worried about on the mahindra was the loader,i know it has more lift cap than the 300 series jd but the jd loader looked much heavier built .and of course the parts network on jd is probblay a little better . but really iam just hopeing i made the right choice . thanks for any help

No mistake....You got a solid Mitsubishi tractor. Your loader will be fine but I probably would have opted for a Woods.....IMHO a little better. Plenty of Mitsu parts around. Cub sold Mitsu tractors for years and now Mahindra plus the grey market. Mahindra has decent prices on Mitsu items though. Think of it this way......It was Mitsu vs Yanmar(?) not JD vs Mahindra. Got to avoid the branding traps......

BUG322, I beefed up my loader bucket by having a piece of 3/8" x 5' angle iron welded to the top edge of the bucket. I also added two chain hooks. For maximum digging ability, I installed a tooth bar.

Like you, I compared the JD790 to the 2615. However, it is more of an issue of contrast than comparisons. For the money, nothing compares to the 2615.

I like my 2615 also. however I would spend a little time reinforcing the bucket. I can see that mine is starting to bow at the top and at the cutting edge slightly.

That is exactly what I think of my 2615. Put a tooth bar on there from Markham Welding, and you'll have a little bull with some serious horns.

has anyone here actually operated the JD790? The controls are downright AWKWARD! Didn't like it one bit. but I'm also 6'8", so I may have a different perspective, but the Mahindra is much easier to operate in my opinion.

I have a 790 at work, and a 2615 at home. The 790 has been okay at work, we use it to mow the facility grounds and light FEL work. The operator's area is too cramped for me, where as my 2615 has plenty of room to get on and off. Plus the 2615 is quieter. We purchased the 790 because I thought we needed a "name brand" at the time. Knowing what I know now, I probably would have bought a Mahindra instead. I did a lot of research before I spent my personal money, and I feel I got a great value for the quality the Mahindra has shown me so far.
