2615 gear drive

Hey fellas,
Just wanted to ask a quick question, My 2615 makes some knocking sounds from the bottom of the engine. It has 79 hours on it...is this normal for a diesel? It has been pretty cold here in North Central PA. This diesel thing is pretty new to me, I hope I am just being over concerned. Any input would be appreciated.

Also, I just had it to the dealer last month for the valves to be put back in spec. It seems to run fine, other than the knocking sound in the engine...

Diesels do tend to have a noise to them but if you think it is a concerning loud then I woul have it checked out.

Engine Knocks POSSIBLE REMEDY


One or more cylinders misfiring . . . . . . . . . . . Locate and correct cause.
Loose main or connecting rod bearing . . . . . . . . *
Injection nozzles defective . . . . . . . . . . . . . Get them serviced.
Insufficient oil . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .Add oil.
Injection pump out of time . . . . . . . . . . . . . See your Mahindra dealer.
Low coolant temperature . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Remove and check thermostat.
High speed too slow . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Check high speed

Whats that high speed thing?
As far as the knocking, i swear its coming from the back side of the engine, and it seems to be in the pan...?

Take a section of garden hose and use it like a stethoscope this should help you locate the source.

I am pretty sure I found where its coming from, it sounds like the back of the engine towards the firewall. Also the sound seems to be low, as in the oil pan area...is there any bolts in this area that could be loose? I think its more prone to do when traveling up a hill.

You might want to try depressing the clutch, and see if the noise stops.

You basically described the bell housing area. You could be hearing a clutch "chatter", or you may even have loose pressure plate bolts. Just a thought.

Sorry, I don't get it. I take it that the engine speed then needs adjusted? I have it at PTO speed, is that normal?

A bad or dirty injector, although a rare thing, can cause a deep knock that sounds like a rod is coming out of the side of the block. It is quick to diagnose without any special tools . Loosen one injector line at a time and see if the noise goes away. That will identify the noisy cylinder. Then swap the injector from the noisy cylinder into a quiet one and test again. If the sound follows the injector, you have a bad injector.
