2538 mowed 10.50 acres today

Got to do some long mowing today with the 2538 and the 72" finish mower. Buddy owns an airport and needs the runway mowed for a few weeks until he gets his old tractor up and going again. It took me 3.5 hours to mow 10.5 acres, grass was mostly 4 to 6 inches with spots up to 12 and 14 inches. Tractor did just fine and the mower deck really shined, I was able to run top out while mowing in medium gear on the HST. Mower ate right through the grass, the taller spots I slowed way down to let the mower cut it, tractor never flinched in the tall grass either.

I really need to get the cruise control if this kind of mowing is going to be on a regular basis !!!! lol

I hear ya, after the first pass I started looking for a stick or something along the hedgerow to jam in there!!!!!!

I've got 10 acres myself to mow (regularly) and wondered if you might want to share what model of finish mower you have. It sounds like a good one. I'll be in the market for a finish mower in a few weeks.

Mahindra 72" finish mower, they are made in Italy, Google "Jolly 180". This is my second deck, the first was a 60" I used behind the Max 24, that deck was just as nice as this 72" deck.

While I agree there is little more satisfying than experiencing the gratification of making grass look nice, my attempts beyond a finish mower would lean toward a gang mower of at least 12' for this acreage. Even 18' if the tractor was capable. Sharpening blades for a gang mower however, is another issue.

I have access to a Big JD and a Rhino SR15 mower....... But this job was too far to transport everything over there. Bigger is better when mowing large acreage, my new 2538 and 72" deck handled it just fine, lil over 3 acres an hour. I really didn't mind after all sitting on a tractor mowing is therapeutic!!!!

As time goes by, you'll need less and less therapy and more and more cutting width
